I know this is all about whether you have cockerels there, but oh my they are cute!
:love
😁 They sure are! Although I’m trying to not get too attached. Which is easier with the BCM because they hate me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, Marans roosters are handsome lads. OE, never raised them so that trick may not be reliable for them. Then again, anything with wattles before 6 weeks of age I question.
I’m not allowed any roosters at all in the city, and a max of eight hens total. So… them being boys just decreases their chances of a long life.

They are cute little baby chickens! That’s the definitive answer. Otherwise, the little I know, I’d say the wattles look small still so can’t be sure. Maybe in another week or two it’ll be clearer. What’s the plan if they are roos?
I’ll euthanize them, like I did Coach. I used a new method- baking soda and vinegar- if anyone is morbidly curious. I tried for about a week to find him a new home, even one that would let him live to adulthood before making him a table bird, but no takers. And I don’t have it in me right now to raise to adulthood and then cull without getting attached.

1-boy
2-girl

😊💕

And totally adorable 😊
That’s what I HOPE, but chick 2 still has more wattles than I expect out of a female. Then again I’ve never raised BCM babies.

Thing is.. don’t get too shook up about earthquakes.
And you might just want to turn a blind eye to the eclipse. :old:D
The problem is the architecture is all different out East. Not really built for wobbles like it is on the West coast. So many brick buildings- death traps the whole lot!

Okay, I panicked that only one of my remaining chicks may be female so I ran to a feed store and bought another chick. SQUEE! That way, worst come to worst, Mina will have a partner to grow up with if everyone else turns out to be boys. But then I got so busy I wasn’t able to take pics of the new chick to commemorate the day. She’s a Sapphire Olive egger, light gray with a yellow spot on her head.
Fingers crossed she’s integrating well with the other chicks who are much larger than her :fl

Can you give them 2 more weeks before you make decisions? I fully agree bigger chick is a boy. The smaller one, it could be just where the wattles will form. If they do not grow at all in the next 2 weeks you could have a pullet. Also, maybe try facebook farm groups. In some area's BCMs are sought after. You might find him a home if you listed him. You might have to give him away. If you were on the east coast I would offer to take the boy chick. I am going to need to look into raising another BCM cockerel. Bubba's feet are starting to look terrible. I thought possible bumblefoot but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the infection would be. Right now they do not seem to bother him, they just look awful. He will be 3 this May. If I cannot figure out what is going on with them, and they start to bother him, I will not let him suffer.

I realize that soon, my precious little rooster friend will be leaving this world, and it makes me sad to think about it. But he’s had the best time of his life with both his life family, and then my family and his new harem of which I am so happy that he adopted as his own.
Sir Jaffar has been having trouble keeping his eyes open. And he stands still and doesn’t move around much.
But then, he wakes up and tries to mount his ladies (instant energy I guess)
He still takes the time to groom himself. And he eats and drinks, if I put him right over his feed bowls.
I really love that rooster! View attachment 3791281
Bless him, he still looks proud of himself

Yes, these two are in the brooder now because I want to give them every benefit of the doubt. And there’s still a reasonable chance chick #2 is a pullet. :pop I sure wish I could hand the cockerel off to you though!

That’s a good idea to try another farm group; I’m part of a local one that I reached out to for Coach, but anyone local to me has the same “No roosters” ordinances to abide by, so to nobody’s surprise I got no takers. I may have to infiltrate some of the more rural area farm groups. 🤔

Poor Bubba- is it perhaps scaly mites?
