She is SO cute. Wait until I get photos of her all snuggled in my cupped hand for scale. You would DEFINITELY get no less than four chicks to appease those instincts then. And April 30th isn’t that far away! Your chicks are about to go in the incubator.
Oh I know you forget how small they are they grow so fast! I sure hope your older chicks are mostly pullets - I hear ya on dealing with Roos. 😟
———-

Yes I will get eggs to my niece for 02 May. Then about 19 days and babies will arrive. If I have any broodies I’ll shove them under the broodies.

I have been forgetting something for a long time.
I hatched another batch of chicks, after the first one (which I sold). Yeah. Even though I'm getting twelve chicks from Peavey Mart. Most of them look to be cockerels, so probably will go into the freezer, but there's definitely one of the roosters that really captured me. He's Big Buff's offspring, buff and red like him too, so of course, the obvious name for him would be Red. Red likes to sit on my shoulder (first cock to do that) and he loves my finger for some reason. He's definitely a cockerel (huge wattles). He's got a sister (Caroline) who is definitely a pullet. They make a great pair. (Caroline's colouring says girl, as do her comb and wattles, which are nonexistent.

Oops. I am hatching yet another (they are in the incubator) which I plan to sell. The Peavey chicks are ordered.

Oh no. More chicks. Gonna have them coming out of my ears soon.
Good thing with the Peavey chicks is they are pullets!

What all did you order from them??

We have a broody butt Samara now.
I hope the kid goes down for a nap so I can get started on the nest box refit. 20240406_105529.jpg

Finally, big beautiful Shep.

Shenandoah sure is getting big.
Maybe 7-8 pounds of feathered love ❤️ I need one of those baby scales to weigh my chooks with.
I used to weigh myself holding the chook I needed to weigh, then subtract my weight to get the chooks weight. But I have gained weight and I don’t like knowing how much weight I have gained! I’m sure that the bathroom scale is not accurate anyway! :gig

If fuentemoon reads this far (I’m not fat but I am weight conscious!)
Here’s some popcorn for you! :pop

@featherhead007
Has been caring for Jaffar who has been quite poorly off and on all week. He has been through a lot.

The rooster from next door who bloodied up Jaffar has been back and sounds dangerous.
