8 hours outside enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and worms. They are exhausted. I probably will not hear a peep from them until well after midnight tonight.

I wish he could have a little space somewhere safe
I have a whole town of homeless people, living in tents and cardboard boxes on the banks of the river near me. I wish the local government would just open up a few shelters for them to live in, maybe only temporary housing because of the heat wave!

Every harmless living being should have a place to rest

Do you have an area to set up a secure fan or box fan that won't tip over and set it up outside using an outdoor electric cord extension? Chickens love the fans in heatwaves. My DH brought a fast-panting Silkie inside to cool off in front of a fan. She was trying to lay an egg in the coop nest so he quickly brought her in front of the fan. He put her back in the coop and as soon as she dropped that egg she made a beeline to the ice cold nipple waterer!

We lost a Dominique pullet in 2018 while she was laying an egg during our summer heatwave. The following year 2019 we lost our 2nd Dom in a 115 degree heatwave while she was laying too. So we are ultra-sensitive about any hens laying in a heatwave!
Heat is so dangerous for chickens. 😔
