Yes, Mrs Little Chicken is a splendid flyer, she can fly at least 150’ and make turns and land on a target with ease!

Her I worry about escaping, but she flies do well I don’t think a ground predator would be a problem, but hawks for sure.
The whole thing is that it's hoped she stays a "flock" bird & not get adventurous to go very far. When young they're like kids who know no fear/danger yet.

They only sell this at my local feed store. View attachment 3935006

They're busy busy scratching in it. But it's very fluffy.

They also aren't wild about the nest boxes. Keep going in, but no eggs today. I assume the general stress and weirdness of the move would cause that.
Hmm. It says it is shavings but it doesn't look anything like what I get as shavings!
Could you post a picture of what it looks like when out of the bag? I will do likewise.

Haahahahaha yep very true!

We need to have an egg pool: guess the colour 👍

Gosh I can’t wait to see how many spots she gets when she moults - Buttercup gets more every year. She is more dark spots than white now.
Moulting is interesting in chickens. Feathersite.com has a pic of a normal cuckoo Dominique that by her 6th year moulted white ~ but in a way thats not strange. At the turn of the 1900's Doms came both in all-white & in cuckoo patterns as Mark Fields wrote.

"Emily," my six-year-old Dominique is starting to go white. Until this year, she had perfect Dominique markings.

"The American Dominique: a Treatise for the Fancier" by Mark Fields includes info on other breeds besides the Dom like Hamburghs, BRs, Dorkings, Jersey Giants, Asiatics, Mediterraneans, etc etc. Such a wealth of history written on American progression of chicken fanciers.

Here’s one for the history books:
CeeCee has gone on to better grassing grounds. She jumps over the fence separating the front property from the backyard where the chooks belong. She goes to see my new tenant (I think she likes his long hair)
He brought her back to me a Bit ago, and I started teasing him.
(Oh, you like the young blonde ones I guess? ) he got so embarrassed and tried to tell his side of the story.
I explained to him that it doesn’t matter what us guys think, in the end, it’s always the girls who decide!.
I told him though, “Leave my girlfriend alone for now!” :lau :gig
I like neighbors who watch out for our hens ~ like years ago w/our 1st two hens when two dogs broke down our wooden gate to get to our chickens who were thankfully locked in the coop run at the time. The neighbor chased off the strays before they did any damage. Those are the kind of caring neighbors to gift w/ your hard earned garden produce or eggs!
