What do you mean RIR's are bred to die young? I never heard that before. :(
I think there is a lot of confusion with RIRs and ISA Browns and a lot of ISA Browns wind up being called RIRs. True heritage RIRs are supposedly not over bred as egg producers. I think the thing to keep in mind is that any hen that is laying 250 or more eggs a year is likely to wind up with reproductive issues.

Wow - soon I will be an expert!
I think I got Polish - but Easter Egger's are hard because they don't look like each other. Claudine (Claudine! :love:love:love) is also an Easter Egger I think and she is nothing like Aurora!
EEs come in all colors. Maleficent was nothing like Aurora and they were sisters! They lay eggs off all colors. Some even lay brown ones. 😉

You will of course notice that Maleficent looks a lot like Claudine.......

Just as I thought I had got Barred Rocks I meet Patricia! :idunno
I tell you, it is hard for a beginner.
That's is a teacher throwing in the exception to the rule too soon.

Don't tell @Ribh but I think she was misled on Patricia. Her comb and wattles are also abnormally large for a Barred Rock. She probably is another kind of chicken. Or a mutant.
