My gosh. I can't believe that would happen to any chicken. Yes, I think poor Alice is not going to beat that poor chicken.

That one may be a worse molt physically but Alice looked way more dejected.

Well FIL liked Cuba but in thinking Iceland for the Aunts. One has been and liked it... please... though it may be too chilly for Shadrach’s familial complications

I loved Iceland! And they do keep chickens there, just not sure I would want to.

He is a Bitsa. He's half barred rock for sure, but mom could be any of my brown layers. He's actually getting a few brown saddle feathers.

I need to try and get some pictures, but I can only touch him after dark. He loves to hang around us, but he doesn't like to be petted. I'm ok with that. I prefer my boys a bit standoffish.

Red Tail Hawks? Yikes. They are HUGE. We have Coopers, Sharp Shinned and Red Shouldered. Red Tails do live here, but I’ve only seen them over my yard a couple times. I have heard their distinct call several times. Our biggest raptors are Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles and Great Horned Owls, though sitings from my yard are rare.

Wow. Our red tails are fairly small here. But, we have golden eagles, bald eagles and owls, so plenty of predators in the sky. As for ground predators, I worry most about the raccoons, but my neighbor showed me pictures from his game camera that shows we have a family of cougars and a mama bear and cub! I have luckily not seen those here, but they keep me in the house at night.

Wow. Our red tails are fairly small here. But, we have golden eagles, bald eagles and owls, so plenty of predators in the sky. I think about that family every time I go out to close the coop at night! I have often thought we should carry a gun with us. It's the reason we have them, but they are always locked in a safe, which does keep the wildlife safe I suppose.

I would hate to shoot a cougar. I think in general if you look big and don’t get in their way most wild animals stay away. But I would probably lock the coop before it was fully dark!
