The little blue-green egg is what Cookie lays. Caught her leaving the nest box this morning. :) 20241003_171326.jpg

I love it when the eggs are not huge for the hen's sake ~ even when the hen is large like a Brahma or Jersey Giant. Our little 4-1/2 lb white Leghorn layed way too large eggs for a midsize bird ~ probably why Legs have too many reproductive issues? Had a Blue Wheaten that layed pretty sky blue XL eggs & often ~ her lifespan was 3 years only. Hurray for smaller egg hens!

Yep my leghornxjunglefowl is smaller than Liara the bluebell and her eggs are the same size as Shep the Marans. I feel like her butt must hurt after laying an egg.

Dear BYC friends,

Apologies for a non-chicken related post. Western NC has been devastated by Helene. Entire towns swept away, bodies are floating, children can't find parents, people are still suffering ... Personally this is the worse disaster I have witnessed since my time at the USA (17 years). The videos are unbearable to watch.

If you are able, please consider donate to Samaritan's Purse. I have made a small donation. I have first hand information that they are doing great work helping western NC. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/

Rudy Rudager probably won’t be an indoor rooster anytime soon:View attachment 3958119
How did fowl pox treatment go for your flock? Rudy looks so much better! For most of our Silkies in the past it took about 2-3 weeks for each bird to completely clear up w/treatment. The good thing is once the bird has had pox the bird has immunity for life!

FBA Weekly Synopsis to October 5, 2024

Thanks to @Ponypoor for last week's synopsis which is available here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-28046392

Why did the Chicken cross the road go to the Michigan State Capitol?
Our chicken news this week is dominated by an epic, 547 mile journey, made by our intrepid heroes @BY Bob and Versace to meet @SimpleJenn, and to start a new life (well Versace not Bob).
Like all great expeditions much preparation and luggage was involved

The sequel to this classic 'coming home' movie is already under development with a wonderful plot thanks to @RebeccaBoyd and some interesting new character dynamics (possibly inspired by HRH Aurora).

In other news:

Both @rural mouse and @Ponypoor have tailless chickens. So do I, but I think I posted Bernie's depleted look last week, and this week she is in a terrible state so I will not shame her!

And chicken-math has come home to roost for poor Kelly, who is inundated with beautiful cockerels that she has to find homes for.

As always I apologize if I missed anything important. This week I have been a bit distracted with a sick cat so may well have mis-posted.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone
