Good morning

I have updates on princess.
Seeing her outside alone and knowing the weather is drawing closer to winter, I made the decision she needed much more. So as I said when her friend Tina died last November, it's best that I rehome her.

Looking for a new home was difficult and I couldn't be sure that they would protect her as I have done for so long.
Thankfully I found a sanctuary, one that is vegan and wouldn't even eat or sell their eggs. They give them their own eggs back 😤

Yesterday was my hardest time, what with my dear old dog dying on Saturday then seeing princess leaving on Tuesday my emotional state was pretty low and I was also in unbearable pain, so much so I had to cancel an important appointment.

But the happiest news for me was seeing princess's pictures and receiving updates since she arrived.
Firstly they said that she was chatting a heck of a lot, to a turkey next to her and the flock she could see outside that inturn came back to talk to her. ❤️

Then even more comforting news last night. Yesterday princess made 3 new friends. Now that really made my heart glow.

Here are the first pictures I've received

From the information I'm receiving Princess is really excited to be there. This is one decision I've made that was right.

Oh Marie. That must have been a very difficult decision for you.
I am so glad that they can update you with pictures and that she seems happy to have new friends.
My heart goes out to you. I am sure you have done the right thing for doggo and Princess. But so hard on you.
:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

I made some; spruce cone in a toilet paper tube. Wrap like a Chrstmas cracker in tissue paper, then dip whole thing in melted bee wax. Waterproof kindling, goes up like a candle.

Currently, though, we have quite a bit of finger width branches from the 2 trees we dropped. I'm breaking the branches into roughly 12 inch pieces to use as kindling. All the political flyers are being kept to use as the paper starter (we've been getting 2-4 of EACH ONE). I have a bucket of twigs next to the wood bin and another next to the woodpile, collecting more twigs and the splinters from splitting wood. Until the brush pile gets broken down, it's adding windbreak and over head shelter for the chickens too.

That’s a great idea! And I bet they go POP when they are burning.

I thought of putting a pile of timbers for the chooks to hide under and as a wind break. But then I came home one day and BIL and mum had throw it into the burn pile and got rid of 🤨

I hope you continue getting pictures and updates of your Princess. Yay, happy chicken! And she's made friends already, that's amazing ❤️

She really is a beautiful hen. I'm so sorry you had to rehome her... But getting updates and seeing her so happy, that's wonderful :hugs

Awww I am sad to hear she has moved away, but glad you found her such a nice place. I love the turkey 🥰 I bet Princess was wondering ‘what on earth is that’!

And super happy they are sending you updates which you can pass along to us. I hope it’s close enough for you to visit ♥️

Marie,

I'm sending many hugs your way. I'm sorry for the loss of your precious pup and for the loss of Princess. What you have had to do this weekend and Tuesday was unselfish acts of kindness. Both were also incredible acts of bravery as well. We all will miss Princess, none as much as you I know. Chickens are flock creatures but you did the very best for her after Tina died. You made it work and I am sure if it had been possible she would have lived the rest of her days as a much loved and happy lone hen. Princess's new home sounds wonderful. The poor Turkey next door, she does not know it yet, but Princess will be her best friend. I really hope in the future you are able to visit her. I also hope you can continue to receive regular updates on her for many more years to come. Our dear "Grumpy Chicken" deserves the absolute best.
