Roosters need love too! :hit
They do and I have my little white fabio right now that I adore. I will have another silkie rooster one day as his companion. I'm just looking for the right one. I will not be a revolving door for silkie boys until that right one comes along. If I can tell right away he is not what I am looking for I will pass until I find what I am looking for.

Oh yes the devil comb - the one I almost clipped off when I was trimming his poof !!!

Speaking of which - those darn girls picked at him in the Hen House before I could let him out this morning, he is once again all covered in blood - darn hens.

Poor fella - I need to go out and give him a good cleaning.
It's become a learned habit w/the hens & probably won't stop now...plus he's so mellow he let's them ☹️. His crest feathers are so long it's easy for a passing hen to yank at the far end of a feather before he can turn to stop it.

This person has long videos most of which we already know but I do learn something new w/ each of Chickenlandia's posts. This one is about 15 mins but I learned some good tips.

Those darn girls, leave him alone.

I have to wonder now, could the bluekote you spray on him to help him actually be drawing their attention to the area and causing some of the picking?

You don’t have much of a choice. The roo you are looking for, is going to find you. It’s the way of the chicken, and they choose us. :hugs

Buy him a little football helmet that the girls can’t peck through!
Problem solved! :old
Be sure it says Minnesota Vikings on it. :D

This is true.

This time last year if you had asked me if I would have something like George running around I would have laughed at you. Then told you that you had lost your mind and it would never happen.

George was meant to be. He survived a cross country trip as a egg. Getting temporarily stuck for 2 or 3 days at a distribution center. He then survived my mail carrier who once again did not call to have me pick up eggs and instead took them on his route along bumpy back country roads riddled with potholes. All the eggs did not safely make it, 2 broke along the way and I had to carefully clean the eggs without taking off the protective coating before I set them. His egg was not even the intended goal for setting, he was just a filler for the carton.

My little man was the first to hatch and was a strong chick. My brother Michael and Rosie knew immediately he was a boy, I was in denial and no he was a pullet. A pullet that almost immediately became the favorite and was so in your face friendly I should have known he was a boy. He put the silkie chicks to shame with just how easy he was to fall for and be friendly. 2 weeks in if it really even took that long boy or girl he was for sure staying.

While still leaning pullet I tragically lost Branch my heart rooster. George who at the time was called Adele stepped up and comforted me sealing our bond. Then his hairdo took off and oops, Adele is a boy, why hello George.

George is brave, full of himself and a little clown. He is the only rooster I have had who took it upon himself to "save me" from the horses when he latched onto Russ's tail. I will never forget the sight of him being flung over his back when Russ flicked his tail.

In short, nope never planned on a little white Polish look-a-like rooster running around. Fate if you will had other ideas.

Just basic care for a chicken at a vet's office is expensive. It cost 300 to set Goldies leg. But even puppy care is expensive. It cost around 500 to treat Toby's scratched cornea, but he's completely healed which is all that matters.
I hear ya! My DD rescued a 4-mo-old puppy that no one would adopt cuz the lower eyelid was pulled away from the eyeball ~ the rescue organization said they only could afford $300 in their budget for surgery but it still wouldn't be a permanent fix. DD/SIL adopted the pup & spent almost $1,000 for the proper eye surgery & she turned out beautiful plus she turned out to be a people person & great w/other dogs. Our pets require medical attention as much as people. It's the world of pet ownership.

DD's Bully-mix "Quincy" w/ normal eyes now

It takes wisdom & restraint to get the right flock mix. In my heart I want 400+ breeds but in my right mind I know it isn't wise. We have to make the right choices. As a sermon I once heard said...we may not be able to help ALL but we can help at least ONE!

Beauty is likely bored being penned up. Any chance of letting them out during the good weather? Of would the cattle also make a break for it?
Their pen is huge. It's most of the neighbor's property, just fenced off. It's way bigger than their old pen, so I don't think they would be bored. They have a lot of enrichment (woods, lots of space to run around) and food and water within easy reach. Beauty is also very picky. She won't eat carrots, crab apples, sweet apples, and certain types of food.
