Just to clarify Tribe 3 is made up of Bantams crossed with Marans? Or a group that includes bantams and some other Marans crosses? Really interested, as I quite like my Marans temperament and size, and have recently experimented crossing them with some Isbars, and LeghornxCrested cream legbar hens. I plan on having the Marans as an integral part of my breeding groups.
Given what I know now I wouldn't attempt to breed. I also wouldn't keep more than one breed. The vast majority of the behaviour and health problems here on BYC are from people attempting to breed with no real knowledge of what the long term consequences will be. When your chicken is only living to 4 or 5 years old and is prone to reproductive disorders at an early age, that would indicate that there is a problem in the genetics somewhere. Bear in mind these are not technically battery breeds.
Many of the integration and aggression problems are I believe caused by various breeding programs.
When a couple of memebers of the chicken club here read some of the threads and articles on BYC they were appalled at the pick and mix buy from a bin in a farm store of hatchery approach to chicken management.
It's not at all unusual for people here to have chickens 11 and 12 years old.

Your view on this has changed drastically dear one ;)

Ohh, I don't know about that.:D
I've never been keen on hatcheries and as you know, I'm prone to a bit of a rant about breeders, full stop.
The one breed only I mentioned in my very first thread here; I just haven't got that.:p
Anyway, if my views have changed, I blame the chicken club here where I live.:p

1 Big Noodle

My lovely wife made us a lasagna the other night and had a few full size noodles left over. I decided to distract the ladies from my breakfast today by giving them something to play with. Be sure to watch for who finally drags the noodle off on her own at the end of the video. She did get 1/2 of the remainder down in that box where she ate it alone!

They are beautiful birds, Bob!

Thank you, I agree, despite the missing feathers. Poor babies. It could snow today. I'm a little worried about Hattie staying warm.

I know that the first snowfall for the littles will be funny. I will try and catch them on video if I can. I think I caught Jabber and Hattie's first snowfall on video. If I can find it I will post it.

I know that this is completely off-topic, but if anyone is interested in having a sticky-beak, I’ve just posted my major assignment online. If anyone would like to have a look, let me know and I’ll post the link. It was a lot of work and I’m quite proud of it! :D I’m also knackered, so I’m going to bed. Night all! :hugs :frow
This may be silly ... what is a sticky beak?
