Dear Maggie! Is that her in the last photo? I just LOVE it!!!
Maggie is the brown fluffy butt close-up in the middle picture. The last picture is Elizabeth asking what I think I am doing photographing chicken butts and whether I think I could use my time more constructively.
Now I have figured out pecking order I understand that Elizabeth is the top Princess (maybe even Queen!), she is a very benign ruler but quite ‘judgy’. Particularly of me. She disapproves of my Fluffy Butt Friday photography.

Nobody was in a hurry to leave their coops this morning. Once out they headed for the nearest dense bush or into the bamboo.
Mel had a comfortable night. Breakfast was prawns and chopped walnuts. She did eat a little commercial feed.
Her wounds are scabbing up nicely and she doesn't seem to have any stiffness in her wings. She drank a lot of water in the past 12 hours which is good. She's under my chair now and not showing any signs of wanting to rush outside.
As soon as she looks like she wants out, I'll let her join the others but will probably bring her in again tonight.

I'm so glad she seems to be recuperating.

Speaking of noises, this morning one of the ladies, Lucky, I think, did a high pitched trill. The entire flock went dead still and then at least three of them weed doing the lower pitched rumble. Wish I had my phone on me at the time!
Did you figure out what caused it?

I admire you for allowing them freedom. I would have too many losses here (hawks are here every day, plus great horned iwls and ground predators fox, coyote, bobcat, raccoon, mountain lion) and I just can’t bear that. I don’t know if they’d be a threat to chickens, but we also have wild boar. Rare to see. Anyway, the flock will be out EVERY DAY at least for some amount of time the next nine days because I have Wed/Thurs/Fri off and I’m also taking vacation days on Mon/Tues! So excited!
That is great. There is nothing like watching them range through the yard. Those are my favorites moments.

That is excellent news! Seems like the flocks will be very wary for a while. That's probably good. I'm so glad everyone survived this round and appears to be OK. :hugs
