@Kris5902 I thought of a few other items that might be easier to get.

A silver sulfadiazine gel. Usually sold in the first-aid aisle of the pharmacy. I use this myself. I prefer this to triple antibiotic ointment. I've had an abscess myself and I drained what I could, filled the wound with the gel and covered it for 3 days. When I took the dressing off the entire wound was almost healed!

Manuka Honey is another one I thought of. My friend had a young stallion barrel horse who punctured his leg right next to the tendon sheath. The vet didn't want to suture it so she recommended filling the wound with Manuka honey, placing a dressing over it, and changing it every other day. The horse never had an ounce of infection, no proud flesh, and is sound as ever. He's currently running 1D barrels and winning money.

Cannabis ointment. I know it's legal in Canada and in my state it has medical approval so I researched it and it is naturally anti-microbial and has excellent pain relief. Also topical use does not create a "head high" so he wouldn't be unable to do his rooster duties.

Fluffy Butt Friday with Lil' Queenie!
Plus more pics of her, and what I rigged up for the brooder. Last evening I discovered she had flown to the very top over the doorway, and was roosting there, on just the edge of the (wrapped) lathe. I carefully got her down (thanks @Shadrach for your article, I did it with a hand under each foot) and put her on the roost on the crate.

She is so pretty!! I'd say she is not of laying age yet. Her comb is pretty small yet. Looks like she is enjoying her new space!

Honey is very good but I think more for open wounds. Our problem here is a deep tissue infection but so far no clarity on whether pus has collected in a focal point. Once the pus has collected draining the abscess and opening up should solve it - and honey would be good on the open part.
