Let me get started Kris. I'm not certain yet. It is a text book. It also includes information on resume creation and how to interview for jobs in the poultry industry. I'm more interested in the biology and physiology. Let me see what those are like. I'm not certain it is exactly what I want yet. It’s a little pricy here... is it worth it? I’m interested, but am getting close to my book budget for the year already and it’s not even started yet!
I don't think I would be too worried about spending on books if they are good. That is someplace I would cut elsewhere for but I get it. This one in particular is not cheap and I concerned about what their attitude towards the chickens will be. I am just desperate to learn more about them so I took the chance.I've already over spent...![]()
Uh oh. The whole world is going to know now. Who are you Aussie folks going to prank now. I love how the point of telling people to smear vegemite on your face is to bond with them.
Really, half the animals are either terrifying, venomous, or (like the quokka) terrifyingly unassuming and cute enough to be quite suspicious considering all the other dangerous creatures there... Why wouldn’t there be a carnivorous cousin to the koala? And have you seen the claws on those things? Herbivore or no, they are a little scary in their own right! Let’s just all take a moment to be thankful that there is no Australian Ursine, at all. I would rather take the mythical drop bear than whatever a grizzly would have evolved into there!Uh oh. The whole world is going to know now. Who are you Aussie folks going to prank now. I love how the point of telling people to smear vegemite on your face is to bond with them.![]()
Nope, not a good day's start Kris.I do not have a great feeling about today... it is 7am here, and still pitch black out, we have torrential rain. The rain woke me up around 4 and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I have a feeling I am going to get very wet today, and the chickens are going to be quite unhappy with the weather. I have just remembered that I left my staple gun in a bucket, so it’s probably sitting in water. Plus point is I have plenty of water to douse those nasty dog crates with. Luckily it is at least fairly warm out. And there is none of the four letter “S” word, even if the precipitation levels are approaching biblical proportions.
Today, I have Roostie to medicate with the enrofloxacin, and now one of the new rescues has an injury which I wasn’t able to tend to fully yesterday, thanks to Little Red’s clumsy mating skills. Afternoon delivery of Eggs and Chicken up a sketchy dirt road with BIL’s driving (scary!) and a check on the mail for a better antibiotic. I am also hoping there is enough of a break in the weather for me to tarp over the chicken trailer (there’s a slight leak and wet poop is nasty).
I told them. (I even warned them) about "Drop bears" and "Drop mice" , but would they listen?
Noooooo!
And last night my neighbor, (The idiot one) made a bonfire and started it with gasoline. I had to stand by in my yard with a fire extinguisher, just in case. (Where do they get these people? "Please send the bus, to pick them up, and take them all away!" Okay, rant over!![]()
She is definitely not fully grown. That comb should get a little bigger and redder. She is a sweetie though.
Here is Hattie for comparison.

She is gorgeous. She's got some incredible ornamentation there!
