The Enforcer at work

The Littles are starting to spend more time with Bigs and yesterday was a whole day of everyone free ranging as I was out into the yard all day. I notice that dynamics among the Bigs is already changing a little as Lilly and Hattie (2&3) spent a lot of time together. While Patsy spent more time resting than I am used to seeing. We have no idea how old she and Lilly are as we essentially rescued them both from living under someone's porch. I'm going to keep an eye on her but I think Patsy is slowing down. I know that her hormones have changed as she has grown a complete set of spurs in the last year as well.

While everyone was out mingling together I managed to catch Lilly doing her favorite thing, Enforcing her yard rules by chasing others! It only happened once but she had to let the Littles know that this was her yard.

WARNING: NO PULLETS WERE HARMED IN THE CREATION OF THIS VIDEO. THEY WERE SURPRISED AND DID GET SOME FLAPPING WHILE RUNNING PRACTICE!
I also apparently had my phone upside down while filming. I have not been able to rotate the video correctly yet. I will try and do so and repost but it thought this was too good not to share.

VIDEO CORRECTED! Sometimes I amaze myself, lol. :gig

Beautiful! You just made my day a little brighter, and really it’s not too hard for me to flip my phone around to view it ;)I supppse if I had a computer I was on it might be a different story though! The miracles of a smart phone at work, there’s not much I did with a computer it doesn’t do... except massive storage.

Thanks so much for sharing :)

Hi! How many chickens do you have now? I did not know that you got some new ones... I guess if I had been following all along I’d know this...... you had four to begin with correct?

it’s the not getting notifications on threads you’re following... not you. I had the same thing happen and had to read a lot to get all caught up :hmm

There has been much chicken math throughout my time with chickens. When I started this string I had 4 chickens, 3 hens, Patsy, Lilly, and Hattie, and 1 rooster, Jabber. Knowing that Jabberwocky could not stay, I wanted to add another hen to balance the flock. A friend of mine had suffered some losses in her flock so she was looking for more hens herself. So I ordered 2 6 week old pullets, Aurora and Maleficent. Hence the split flock of Bigs and Littles. We recently had to cull Jabberwocky as he was attacking everything that was human and I could not feel right about rehoming him. So the flock now is:
Bigs:
Patsy
Lilly
Hattie

Littles:
Aurora
Maleficent

I hope this helps you to keep track.
