I’d like to hear more about Dink, Shad, if it’s not too painful.
I have written her story for the book. No, it's not painful. She had by any judgment I am capable of making for a chicken a great life. In the end she was just unlucky.
The majority of the chickens here are likely to die before me. I and anyone who keeps free range chickens has to accept that for any creature freedom has risks.

Good morning everyone! I just had to say im gonna take a short hiatus to get this big ole family thru the holidays. Im struggling to keep up and need to take the pressure off. Yall have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Have a great holiday @mixedUPturk :)

You are definately more fascinating than the lettuce! Those were some friendly pecks. I wonder if they were thinking your green pants were lettuce as well?

They do seem to like the colour green, I think this is why they liked their picture I laminated for them. Although, when I offer them some lettuce out of the work scraps bucket, if a chicken can look unimpressed, my girls do!

It cracks me up how they can look at something offered with that 'is that it' look.

I'm so glad you like it.

I'm not sure what initially drew the wild ducks to the pool. I know that by spring I have algae growing in the water on top of the pool so it does start to seem similar to a pond. I know they come every year and usually leave about the time I remove the cover. There have been times they have come back after the pool is open. It is a real challenge getting rid of them then and they do things in the pool that is not cool. :sick
I see:lol:. Not cool:sick

so it's an under ground pool . ? Do you treat the water?

I agree with what you said about the free-ranging. It amazes me that there are people that will go through all of the trouble to predator-proof the coop and/or run, and then let them free-range unsupervised to get picked off. :idunno
