This started off as a preening vid but then I thought it might show how big Snow is at 15 weeks!
will she get to horse size then stop? šŸ˜‚ maybe she can be our second vehicle, Vi and I can saddle up and ride Snow to school each morning 🤣

Wow, she is growing fast!

@BY Bob I meant to mention this in one of my posts yesterday, and it got deleted mid post and struggling with the pic uploading, etc... and we are both going to have to pay some chicken tax here, I warn you. In the ā€œmy chickens might have a STD, I’m calling all my contacts/other farmersā€ phone call post about the potential Mareks exposure on our island, I was also dragged into a ā€œCovid discussionā€ with the hippie/co-op eccentric person. (Oh, and his ā€œsituationā€ also explains a chick purchase inquiry I received a few weeks ago from another chicken owning resident on the same property 😢)

please rant here and explain to people (as your thread is almost going ā€œviralā€ here apparently) on how inaccurate this ā€œimportant informationā€ on Covid is.... *shoving soapbox under the local expert’s feet*

So the Guy went from ā€œI’m killing all my chickens because they have Mareksā€ (maybe... a virus, like you know?) to ā€œyou’re young and don’t need to worry about this but... Ivermectin cures Covid, but it’s so cheap no one will promote it. I was feeling ill and (before our vet restrictions) I had had a premonition so I bought the Apple flavor oral horse wormer version in bulk. It ā€œcuresā€!Covid. Several South American countries and some Mexican provinces have completely eliminated Covid using ivomec!!! Blah blah bla...ā€

Anyhow, as I was mentioning how much I love ivomec for severe mite infestations (especially SLM) and lice, and I am also currently saying how well the antibiotics are doing in improving Roostie’s situation; I also feel obliged to say it isn’t a cure all. Please don’t think of it as such, and I highly doubt ivomec is a ā€œcureā€ for Covid. Don’t consume horse wormers to cure a virus, please!!! Needless to say the phone conversation involved a lot of ā€œUm-hmmm, you don’t say?ā€, and ā€œthat’s fascinatingā€. If he picked anything up (parasites🤢) from drinking contaminated water, eating roadkill, etc ... it may have helped with that?

I’m quite vocally pro chemical treatment when appropriate and used in an informed and educated manner, and considering some of my own current situations, that’s possibly going to get unexpectedly very publicly exposed here. But please don’t eat horse wormer, and ivomec etc. are not effective against viruses.... that’s why it’s so hard for me to find meds for my chickens here, because some people advocate eating horse paste wormers as an anti viral solution... :he
What COVID is demonstrating is the real danger the internet poses. Anyone can pose as an expert on the internet. Any rumor false or true can be spread in a second.

You marry this kind of accessibility to information with the desperation brought on by fear and exacerbated by distrust of the government and scientists associated with the government, you wind up with people drinking bleach and taking goat dewormer.

Then add in a lack of basic knowledge of biology as it is not well taught in schools. A dewormer effects multi-cellular organisms. A virus is smaller than a cell. The dewormer works in the intestinal tract. The virus infects the respiratory system and the blood. There is no mechanism for one to even reach the other let alone effect it. This is not high level science yet it is escaping people.

Conspiracy theories are one thing but science is science. This magnificent world wide web can be used for so much good, bringing chicken lovers together for an example, but it also allows nonsense to persist and spread as if it is real science. Just sad. Education is the key to ending things like this but we no longer train people how to think critically and examine facts for themselves, if we ever did. šŸ˜•

They are wonderfully imposing birds. I was within beak reach and it started "booming". I think it was objecting to having it's picture taken.

It was our 33rd anniversary last Saturday. šŸ‘©ā€ā¤ļøā€šŸ‘Ø
Congratulations! šŸ‘ Mrs BY Bob and I hit 33 in December! Welcome to the club.

Ugh I'm a idiot and I hope I didn't screw up to bad. With the fiasco of holding crybaby *Toothy Jr* for people last week and non showing up, the sick chick and nest laying shenanigans I completely forgot that the 6th was lockdown day for the other round of eggs in the incubator. I only remembered this morning when with my first cup of coffee glance at the date on my computer. The 8th, what...can't be those eggs should start hatching the 9th. ran to my paper with dates written down and have a panic attack. I've removed the turner, upped humidity and now just pray I guess.
