@BY Bob I meant to mention this in one of my posts yesterday, and it got deleted mid post and struggling with the pic uploading, etc... and we are both going to have to pay some chicken tax here, I warn you. In the “my chickens might have a STD, I’m calling all my contacts/other farmers” phone call post about the potential Mareks exposure on our island, I was also dragged into a “Covid discussion” with the hippie/co-op eccentric person. (Oh, and his “situation” also explains a chick purchase inquiry I received a few weeks ago from another chicken owning resident on the same property 😢)

please rant here and explain to people (as your thread is almost going “viral” here apparently) on how inaccurate this “important information” on Covid is.... *shoving soapbox under the local expert’s feet*

So the Guy went from “I’m killing all my chickens because they have Mareks” (maybe... a virus, like you know?) to “you’re young and don’t need to worry about this but... Ivermectin cures Covid, but it’s so cheap no one will promote it. I was feeling ill and (before our vet restrictions) I had had a premonition so I bought the Apple flavor oral horse wormer version in bulk. It “cures”!Covid. Several South American countries and some Mexican provinces have completely eliminated Covid using ivomec!!! Blah blah bla...”

Anyhow, as I was mentioning how much I love ivomec for severe mite infestations (especially SLM) and lice, and I am also currently saying how well the antibiotics are doing in improving Roostie’s situation; I also feel obliged to say it isn’t a cure all. Please don’t think of it as such, and I highly doubt ivomec is a “cure” for Covid. Don’t consume horse wormers to cure a virus, please!!! Needless to say the phone conversation involved a lot of “Um-hmmm, you don’t say?”, and “that’s fascinating”. If he picked anything up (parasites🤢) from drinking contaminated water, eating roadkill, etc ... it may have helped with that?

I’m quite vocally pro chemical treatment when appropriate and used in an informed and educated manner, and considering some of my own current situations, that’s possibly going to get unexpectedly very publicly exposed here. But please don’t eat horse wormer, and ivomec etc. are not effective against viruses.... that’s why it’s so hard for me to find meds for my chickens here, because some people advocate eating horse paste wormers as an anti viral solution... :he

I’m so sorry that Canada has such strict rules regarding these things 😕
I’ve never been in a known position (or had the amount of birds you have) where I’ve needed antibiotics (though for Penny it might have been a solution if I had an avian vet to tell me so) though I do believe in Aus you can get a broad spectrum one online easily without prescription.
If customs wouldn’t pull it, I’d buy it and send it over to you along with everything else that would replenish your chook first aid kit🥺
Thanks! I just find the whole hypocrisy frustrating and almost comical in its idiocy. I’m making progress on my available solutions as I can. I do have to say I admire AUS for their quarantine measures, even pre Covid. If your going to do something, do it right!

Except let the Australian Open happen in Melbourne (not exactly the ‘quarantine’ you’re referring to and yes I know, dollars needed for the economy etc etc) but gee I’m hoping it doesn’t lead to another long lock down in Vic😭 with Dan the Man, you never know what’s coming 😬

One of the things I love about Campines! 🥰 Australorps have eyes like that too.
I was going to get an australorp and a grey Maran and ended up with a light Sussex and a perhaps jubilee orp, meant to be a speckled Sussex (either way, love my Belle, or Belly Boo or BabyBelle. She has many nicknames 🥰) when I squat to pick up all Boks moulted feathers off the ground atm, Belle jumps up on my back and settles in 😂

Lucky is doing great, she’s eating like crazy, fitting in with the flock like she never left it, and her back feathers are starting to unmatt. Her bum is still bare from the massive trim, but the lice are all gone for now (dusting #2 is written down on my calendar!) I love that Carbaryl powder, now illegal here and potentially cancer causing or not

still having issues attaching pictures since the update

Today I did a full clean and bedding replacement in the chicken Trailer Coop (2.5 hrs) and hand carried a bale of hay to the far corner of the field in the top right of the above picture (which I tried to post yesterday) 7 square bales hand moved into the woods and the cows relocated from said far corner of the field they weren’t supposed to be in (3 hrs). That was on top of morning, afternoon, and evening chicken chores! Arduinna had fun, especially on the walk through the woods with the hay. At one point while I was cleaning the coop she went to play in the woods and didn’t come when I called. I thought I had lost her and was freaking out... she was just checking the leftover cow hay quietly though. If you will excuse my dishes (water issues means I let them collect too much) this is why goats make less than ideal house pets! It literally takes two seconds for things like this to happen...View attachment 2521161 View attachment 2521164
But she’s just so cute! Look at how much her little horns have grown :love
