Mine are all single combed too, except for the 2 younger olive egger's. They have the peacomb's and possibly too much feathering for summer's here. I'm not near ocean, sea, or lake so none of that breeze over here. Just a dry heat, except for when we have the monsoon season.
Humidity is the real killer in summer here. Anywhere on the mainland is just sweltering. Out west the heat is higher & drier. I'm not sure which I hate most. We should be heading towards monsoonal rain but so far it has been a really dry summer.

Well, I hope that the rain's start for you all down there. I've been seeing the new's about your fire's down there. Maybe the rain's will help to get them under control.

Well, they probably won't ~ not the big ones ~ but every little bit helps. :)

I both love and hate the manual doors. I hate the getting up so early in the summer to open, and the fretting about that they are closed at dark. But I also love the security of knowing everyone is locked in and safe from harm. Every night. I suppose it depends on your lifestyle and run, but I do like the solid, safe door to be closed at night.
Oops... over tired and that comment is totally incomplete. I love the idea of the automatic doors, not having to get up so early, or fretting about getting home in time to close everyone up... Even though it is inconvenient and I worry when I’m late, I like the feeling of security I get by personally shutting them in every night. That’s what I was trying to say!

I’ve got my doors set to close after dark for when I’m not there (and my mother-in-law forgets to do it), otherwise I check the girls are in bed every night.

There is something to be said for the peaceful feeling that everything is good and the girls are all safely tucked in. I really like the coop-cam idea for that. I know when I’m away and DH or my mother is putting the girls up I’m always a little anxious about it. And yes I call my poor husband to check in every night. Was everyone on the roosts? Are they all ok? Did you lock the door? A camera would certainly help with a lot of that!
