I think for me one of the hardest things to watch is when a mother hen decides it's time for the chicks to fend for themselves. Some are more abrupt than others but watching the chicks, now fully feathered I must admit, trying to get underneath one of mums wings and getting pecked quite hard for their trouble is heartbreaking.
Thankfully it doesn't last for long and many of the mums here end up as friends with their offspring. Ruffles for example was extremely tolerant of her chicks when the grew older.
You warned me about this. Sydney was quite abrupt when she was done with them. From that moment on they were competitors for food and she treated them as such. It was hard to see but they squared away their relationship pretty quick.

Hello!! Just a quick check in, I've been busy helping with vision screenings for the incoming kindergartens.

I did manage to let the chooks out for a bit before dark today. Ned and Rex had a bit of a tussle this afternoon. No one was hurt but Rex has learned that Ned gets as much room as he wants with his ladies.

A moment later, Rex was yawning not trying to eat Ned.

That's was something. Was Rex too rambunctious around the girls? Did you see what started it?

I think @RebeccaBoyd is owed a policy rewrite.
In this instance there clearly should be an allowance for emergent situations. It is a terribly written policy and dangerous to health of people in her situation. All so the endocrinologist can bill out to insurance companies. Don't fool yourself, that is the primary reason. The endocrinologist is employed by the health system and it is a money maker for the new owners. They might be able to see where an occasional change to a newer therapy might help but I am willing to wager a lot on money that most everyone is told to continue therapy as is.

Chicken tax.
