OF COURSE you may!!!May I join in the conversation? I know I post for FBF and Mugshot Monday, but I haven't really participated fully. I do really enjoy this thread![]()
Amazing. I tried growing a few giant sunflowers last year and they attracted aphids like crazy! I was inexperienced snd cut them down before there was anything edible inside the shell, too.We throw some out for the doves, and I give them to my girls once in a while. And yes, I have put sunflower seeds into my fodder. Chickens love them. We have wild sunflowers growing where they will be free ranging..we'll see if the plants get started even a fourth of the way this year. I love growing the giants. When the huge flower starts to drop, and the seeds are ripe, I break the head in half and put it out for the chickens. Lasts a while...weeks. These are very large and beautiful sunflowers I grow.
What a day, Alex!Wow, I’m tired today. I went to my neighbors house and cleaned up for her. Fed her animals and mine. Cleaned her coop and mine. Went to town for groceries for her, and myself. Repaired her broken gate. Talked to my other neighbor (the one with the roosters) and found out his intentions. (Raising them for sale and not cockfighting) now I will be working into the night, designing the new coop for the littles. (After I make myself some dinner)![]()
That's a very sweet photo of them together, even though they were being prankstersAgain!
I was outside working in the yard today starting to prep it for spring flowers, etc. When I went out the tribe was really messed up. I mean disorganized. Aurora was on the deck, Phyllis was in the garden, Sydney was in the run and Sansa was at the woodpile. Hattie and Lilly were no where to be found. No one was in distress. Where was the leadership of this tribe? As it was, a predator could have picked one of without the others ever knowing.
And where were Hattie and Lilly?
I found them here:

Well that explains that. It also reinforced my fears of what would happen should Aurora ever be in charge.
It had a side effect as well. The two of them were in there over 2 hours, which backed up egg laying by Sydney, Sansa, and Phyllis. That resulted in the Bakawking wars. Hens were all complaining at the tops of their lungs at one point or another.
What was the result of them both being in there so long........NOTHING! NO EGGS WERE LAID! I get Lilly just hanging out but Hattie? I don't get that.
I really don't need Lilly laying eggs anyway. I really do not want or need Lilly laying. We have plenty of eggs right now.
Once Lilly left the coop, the tribe came her. She called them, and they came. Structure returned.
Everything was normal after that until roost time. They all went to bed as per usual. It wasn't until I checked the cameras to see how they roosted until I figured out something was wrong.
What is this all about!?

Lilly is not one to sleep in the nest box. I can't remember if I have ever seen this before from her. Is she just messing with me?
I get the most fluffy butt when someone is standing on meLovely collection.
How come when I get to try and take FBF shots they all turn to look at me and walk right up to my feet!![]()
Bok and Lilly were in the same mood it seemsAgain!

I took a pic then realised it was a month nearly to the day I got a shot of her doing it last time (minus the wooden egg) when she was in moult still. I love her new feathersI just went outside and found Snow and Belle under the yukkas, kinda hiding... couldn’t see Bok.
Walked around the back of the house to their run and looked in the coop and there she is. She is squatting in the nesting box over the wooden toy egg of Violet’s I threw in there yesterday to encourage Snow, shavings on her back from building a nest and trilling at me to please leave![]()
