No. You don't.Thanks Chookmum!Haven’t had any avos yet, I’ll let you know when we do. I suspect there will be lots of guacamole in our future.
I thought you needed a male and a female but that may not be the case. I’ll have to research it.
When I went out to check on chickens this morning, I noticed Alice and Abby are getting very red combs. They are 19-20 weeks old. I think I'm going to get eggs from them soon!
They are Lavender Orps, and I have a LO cockerel at same age. Would sure be nice if they would get together and give me a few more LOs this year. You never know.
It's been a while since I saw pictures of your chookies. They are looking great! so beautiful!I have 16... and for the last 4 months or so only about four of them were laying.. quite a few of them were molting.. even new ones from this last spring which I thought they don’t molt until their second year.. but it seems to me and Bob and Shad could probably tell me so.. but they seem to follow what the rest of the gals are doing even if it’s not what’s “suppose” to happen...? I have mostly different breeds and the ones that are the same are different colors so I can tell them apart.. and I do not add light.. here are some..View attachment 1997261View attachment 1997262View attachment 1997263View attachment 1997264View attachment 1997266View attachment 1997267View attachment 1997268View attachment 1997269

These photos are from December 19th. It's too rainy to get a decent photo today.
Oh, I know what you mean! I'd love to get to know so many breeds! But, I have settled on Orpingtons, just may expand my color choices if the opportunity arises. I do still love my 2 RIRs but they will be the last of that breed. Well, they are young, so I'll have them for years to come, I hope.Absolutely gorgeous.
