I got what I could get. Pickings are getting slim here in the states.I'm surprised you didn't try for Japs. They have the lovliest curved shape plus a really jaunty tail.![]()
But you are right, I do love their shape.

With my mates, it can be hard to get a word in sometimes, they're a rambunctious lotI excite mine with chicken stories. Maybe you aren't telling them well.![]()
So like Phyllis, not prolific layers. That's what I'm hoping for. And hopefully that leads to a long life.About 3-4 times a week. They did a run of every day for a couple of weeks in the spring but mostly I get one egg from the pair most days and sometimes they both lay on the same day.
Dotty got up at 1am this morning to lay. I have no idea what that was all about!
Look at those beautiful hens. So shapely.I keep with me at all times this little blue rake, I use it as a blocker, wiled it behind, left, right, where ever Bob is it is between him and me..... at least I try,![]()

None of that false modesty for you!Darn right! And my son looks exactly like me. We are good people (that’s why I hang out with you people on BYC) All good people!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope your sister passed this time. Sending her all the good vibes retroactively. If possible could everyone send good vibes my sister's way this afternoon. She has to head to Tennessee in a bit to take her board certification test for being a x-ray tech. This will be her 2nd time taking it since she graduated in May. First time around it about crushed her as she was 2 points shy from passing it. Since then between starting and working full time at the hospital all she's done is study. Even more so then when she was in school.
Ow ow ow. Finger injuries hurt so much. How is he going? Will he lose any function or can the surgeon fix it? Get well soon Mr micstrachan.I need to catch up, and I will. It’s already 86° here and it’s only 10 AM. I need to start cooling down the chicken area. Yesterday I had to take my hubby to the ER at around 1 PM. Ended up picking up at around midnight. He crushed his pinky finger in a trailer accident. They had to wait for the hand surgeon who had to rebuild his finger. Ouch!
Hello Lexicon!Hello, I have been following this thread since before I officially joined BYC and I love it!
I thought I might introduce myself with a fluffy bum photo of my alpha hen, Annie and a side shot too. Now if I can figure out how to do that!View attachment 2753274View attachment 2753273
I have a mixed flock of ten one year old hens in northwestern Canada. I purposely chose not to get production breeds in the hope that they might have longer lives without realizing that dual purpose equals broody, at least in my case! I am on my eight broody of the summer right now!
Maybe you need something a bit larger. Have you thought of using a tennis racquet?I keep with me at all times this little blue rake, I use it as a blocker, wiled it behind, left, right, where ever Bob is it is between him and me..... at least I try,![]()
