What an amazing cat. That's great. Do they run from it or just walk away from the cat? I'm trying to picture this hearding behavior.
They were almost on the bottom step to the pavement, I think my lad worked out I was frantic, so headed too the bottom of the fence jumped over and stood before them, he was then on the pavement.

I rushed back up my steps and out of the way and couldn't believe how we worked as a pair . I then came behind the cat and watched in amazement as he just kept behind them leading them through the second gate and up into the third which I then closed. He did it a second time when they decided to go into my neighbor's garden and it's never happened since.

I don't know if it was just luck or him being clever. I've noticed he seems too understand a lot of what is said as well, even more so than the dog. I'm sure it's not only the tone of my voice.

Around a year ago my neighbour and I were discussing if I was to go away for a night, he said he would watch over the animals the cat ran off for ages. So he does get thing's wrong at times, he's not a super genius.

All this makes me lean towards thinking that these stray cats are a little more intelligent plus even more determined and that part can be annoying.

Very cool. He's a good dude that one. :hugs

As promised here are the pictures of Henrietta's 6. They are 4 days old now and are growing well. While they are quite, happy and content, they are also happy little mess makers. Each one has already made up for the fact that I only got pooped on once with all the chicks I brooded in early spring. If I hold one for more then a minute I'm getting pooped on.

Adorable little poop machines! 🥰

We are trying to come up with a clever name for the Polish crew. We are open to suggestions!
Are you looking for names for the future chicks Bob? Or for the group as a whole?

I did a quick google of Polish Queens. Some of the easier to pronounce names are:
Oda
Emnilda
Agnes
Eudoxia
Lucia
Ludmila
Hedwig
Viola

There are lots of others, but either I couldn't figure out how to pronounce them or they are more "common" names like Ann and Helen. Just thought I'd throw them out there for you to look at. 😇

I’m thinking of buying one of these with the little tax money I’m getting, opinions? My feeder is outside the coop most times, thought it would help when it rains (so I don’t have to shift it into the cubby where they kick shavings into it, because the feed wouldn’t get damp) and maybe the wild birds may take 2 days to work it out 😂(but will the girls work it out?) It is clear on that side in the pic to show how it works I believe, and yes, it is a proper seller this time 😅 an Aussie company so trying to support ‘local’ 🤷🏻‍♀️

it seems a long way to have to stick their head in? My only apprehension...
Tell me your thoughts, chook brain trust 😁
Well I am having trouble figuring out how it works, but then, I'm not a chicken so...

Oh, good! Please let me know. It doesn’t really matter, except… I’m curious!
Well that was interesting.
I cracked two roadrunner eggs and one was white inside and one was blue!

I swapped them around on the counter to be sure it wasn’t a trick of the light.
That was so intriguing I dug through the chips of shell I already fed back to the Princesses. Sure enough a mix of blue and white on the inside.
🤔

So I investigated more and I discovered that the white ones actually have a very tightly adhering membrane and are also blue under the membrane.
I peeled the membrane off some chips of shell (it was really stuck on there!) and found blue underneath.

Edited to add this link on the subject: https://www.mypetchicken.com/backya...as the brown color of,the inside of the shell.

I have one of those and my ladies figure it out just fine.
I get the sense they prefer an open feeder but it works great.
