I was thinking to hire someone to remove it for me. I may go that route.

It is hard to write this but the only damage to Mal was in the neck. There was no damage elsewhere. I know that weasels for sure and raccoons have been known to kill that way. I have not heard of skunks doing that. But I have also not heard of skunks attacking full grown chickens before either.

Honestly Bob, I don't think the skunk is your killer. Can they, yes of course, but there are many other, easier tasty treats in your yard for them to eat.

Was Mal in the run or was she outside? I'm sorry I forget things so easily these days.

I do. I can do all from memory as well. :D
If someone takes a breeding pair they get the pairs family history, hatch date and place, history to date, medical problems, feed etc. It doesn't happen often but people do ask for chickens sometimes and I give away a breeding pair, or nothing.
Wouldn't the rooster overmate when there is just the two of them?

Hopefully I can follow movements with this cam tonight.

I think that will do the trick. Your yard seems pretty secure. Do skunks climb fences? If so, that doesn't seem like a "just passing through" sort of thing.

It goes under the perimeter fence (white fence). I am thinking about using large gravel to discourage going under the perimeter fence. It would not stop any determined predator but it would be a first line of defense.

All I see right now are points of vulnerability.

Have you ever swapped a pair to introduce diversity?

Sorry for being curious. It's very interesting for me.

That's awesome. If there's anyyhing to see, you'll see it.

I am hoping the closer cameras give me detail and the far camera gives me movements.

I actually bought a wired kit for the far camera so I can run it constantly if I want.

Have you considered burying hardware cloth around the perimeter? I know that's a lot of digging for you to do, but it would completely thwart any predator digging.
