They advised I feed them mash because that's all they have eaten. No information was given on how long they should remain the case.

With any change I try to provide choice. Give them both and let them decide.

Praying they haven't clipped their little beaks :(
What Bob said, and it will relieve stress to have something they know about to eat. In think also they will need to practice picking up bits of anything. Clipped beaks makes it even more difficult. So your yogurt mixes, only with tiny bits of things in it, would be a good choice in addition to the mash to provide for them to try.
I am far behind but hope to read that your new ladies are settling in well!

I'm relieved that yogurt was mentioned. They have been pecking around the garden and accustomed theirselves too their future home when the girls were not there, I dropped mealworms in after to take the sting out of the fact my other three knew that they had been there.

There's a lot of tension between the five as you can well imagine.

Yogurt coming up next :D

Thank you ;)

Your new girls are pretty, congrats. Give the meanie a bit of time to settle in. When my new blue girls showed up they were super stressed from the truck ride. I packed each one to their new coop, and each girl in their panic were biting the crap out of me. They still do not know how to roost, so I thought I would put them on the roost at night. That didn't work and me picking them up resulted in the more standoffish 2 biting me again. I do not know if I'll ever be able to properly teach them to roost, but from then on I decided I would not pick up the girls and let them come to me. That hands off approach has worked wonders, they follow me around and I've been able to pet one of them a few times now. Actually, the blue crew are stalkers if I think about it. working with the horses yesterday I heard them but didn't see them. I stopped and started looking closely and there they were, at the corner outside of Louis stall peeking around watching me. I spoke to them and they went about their business like "nope, we were not staring at you, carry on."

Thanks! I try to pay close attention to them when I’m “helping” them and barely rub their beaks, keeping close attention to how they are responding. Mrs B actually seems to like it, and as I said with access to some hard surfaces most of the girls in with Chickie Hawk have been “working” on their own beaks. They have much less troubles eating now.

I miss being able to Free Range Sammy and his girls, but they keep wanting back into the barn, and with the owl lurking... they were much happier running around outside my big Coop and all the human places, and being forest chickens.

Below is my Chickie Hawk the big daddy rooster of most of my flock. He has some attitude issues towards humans. He is in with the most of my rescue girls. Pics from spring (and the White leghorn X boys in the background were tasty jerks, Sammy’s brothers)

These pictures are from when he was still a young and slightly less aggressive guy, he has settled down some now, but went through a very nasty young adult phase.
He is a beautiful boy!
