Thanks, everyone. I opted for euthanasia. Poor Ester.
You did the right thing, all we can aspire to is to enjoy life while it happens, same with any species - chickens no different.

And not suffering by having a peaceful death is part of a life well lived.

Hi folks. Ester is at the (emergency) avian vet. A different avian vet from the one who treated Ruby is going to examine her quickly before the regular avian vet arrives, at which time, they will jump into surgery. From my perspective, she is declining. I’ll let you know what they say, but suspect I’ll be going home without her today. 😔
I'm sorry, Michelle. :hugsYou've had a rough time of it this year.

Hahahaha Fluffy McNugget is most definitely Hen - she lays these awesome pinkish eggs.

This is her chicklet who most definitely is a roosterlet 😁: Dixie Chixie, his Dada is an Easter Egger.
I hatched out 4 eggs with Henny Penny, from four different hens, I got two pullets and from my two silkie hens (Fluffy and Curly) I got roosterlets!!! Hahaha.

They will live a good life here and then in a few months or so, I will have someone put them in the freezer, I won't eat them but I don't have any qualms about someone else enjoying them. After what happened with the other Roo chicks last summer - my niece 'gave' them to someone and the place was a dive... And of course it wasn't a 'sanctuary'... I would prefer mine enjoy life here, then quietly end up someone's dinner, preferred human not fox 🙂

Better luck next summer.... Not that I need more hens - or chickens for that matter!!!!

i dont think ill be here for a while. I apologize. Im feeling absolutely disgusted with myself, a chick i own (and probably all my others) im confident has coccidiosis, and i waited to long, thinking it was some other issue. I apologize again. i was very ignorant to think she was alright. Sorry to bring it into a gloomy setting.
@Chicken poppy
Definitely see if a Vet can prescribe for that - or if you are able to get amprolium. There is an easy fecal float test that can be done for diagnosis.

Where your chicks vaccinated? If they were for Coccidiosis, then it should be mild and they should survive as they'll have some immunity. (Sorry, I don't remember if you hatched them or bought from a local hatchery)

I'm praying 🙏that whatever it is, they survive and thrive.

Hugs for you, Michelle:hugs:hugs:hugs. Ester is at least not in pain anymore...as I'm sure she was from the behavior /body language you described.

My prescription: spend some time this evening with your girls. They are probably missing Ester and could use your company...and you theirs. 🐔🐔🐓🐔🐔
