Your stories of your lovely chickens are doing nothing to reduce my enthusiasm for a road trip to visit and bring some home.
Of course it is impractical (kinda) but every time you give an update I am tempted!
I'm being honest when I say I cannot fault these Marans and Marans mixes temperaments. Whether they are broody raised or hand raised in the end they have turned out to be well adjusted friendly birds. The majority of them lap chickens, but even those that do not like to be held are all up for a pat on the back and neck. I've yet to have a ill tempered boy either which has been wonderful since I have the rooster issue. Plus especially if you like black birds and darker brown eggs its a win win. This year HAS to be different. Surely I will not end up with another 80+% ratio of hatching off males. If I do I will cry.

Thank you for saying that but I can't say that I agree. I know many who are more successful than I am.
I'm not arguing with you but...

You have done your level best no one can do better, you learn as you go. I'm the pathetic one here.

For instance, my Tina has all her feathers missing off her throat and I don't have a single clue how to deal with this. I've bought this anti feather pecking and that's as useless as I am. All that has achieved is too upset her

But you are already set up with your wall heater and shower curtains. What else would you want to do?
I think all I will do is close the pop door which I don't usually do.
I could also close the baffles but they are so far above the chickens' heads I don't think that really affects them. You could argue even the pop door is so far below them that it doesn't make a difference either.
🤔
Throw a bunch of corn around. Refresh their water
Maybe change automated door to manual so it doesn't open in the morning
