I am not sure this photo is good enough for you to see, but here are my clever ladies catching the last rays of the sun before going to bed. They are all together in that little area under the servants quarters

which is the favorite dust bath area. It is very sheltered (it is essentially underground) and as you can see catches the evening sun.

Apparently my hens have not read the book that claims "hens prefer dark quite places to lay their eggs." Porch box drama continues, and only getting worse. 11 girls are laying and now all but the cochins who have yet to discover the front porch fight to lay their egg in the 1 box. They are all completely ignoring the box beside the prize nest. Depending on who is in the box, and who is in line to lay they will either climb on top of a hen to lay or in Raven and Butter's case evict the hen in the box. If the box is occupied and someone else needs it, they ALL complain loudly that the box is in use. I really cannot understand why they all want that box. It's in a brightly lit, non secluded location that between letting in and out the cats and dogs and coming and going myself a high-traffic area. I can understand possibly why Bunny loves it, she hatched off her first clutch of chicks there last year. The rest of the girls...I think they just want to drive me crazy.

Yep my Henny Penny has decided that it's all good to lay her eggs on some old feed sacks that I keep for placing garbage in. Today I even showed her a meat with an actual egg in it!!! Nope a while later she had wandered off and I found an egg over on the feed sacks haha...

At least old Penelope when she was being quirky laid her egg inside a half full bag of shavings where it was dark and sheltered hahaha.

I may have just found my silkie hen I've been looking for. I should know for sure this evening, but if travel arrangement's can be made hopefully this weekend I'll be picking up a 2 1/2 year buff girl. She is a little older then what I was looking for, but, for sure a hen and the right color.
Egg-cited for you! Can't wait for pics!
