I think mother nature has gone off the rails!

It was -28C this time yesterday morning, today it is -1C (oh blessed relief!), but short lasting relief, back to -25 by Friday, and a roller coaster ride for the next week at least....

I am looking into some sort of heating system for the actual roosts themselves. To help keep their little legs and feet and bellies warm.

So if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it....
I know our weather is fluctuating all the time.
It's freezing now and air should be clear but it stinks of burning rubber out there tonight

I would love to be able to heat up my girls little coop but with no electricity that's just impossible :(

He is, because he's in his newly acquired tiny box

I don't have a traditional "roost" bar, I have the Omlet system, a Cube MK2, so it's a square platform with roost bars built-in, see if I can find a product picture...

But yes, like @micstrachan (?) does with her towels, if I had a single roost bar, I would lay it lengthwise on the roost, and cover it with a towel, and wrap it around with light bungee cords.
How do the omlet roosting bars compare to one long roost? Can the hens easily grasp the omlet bars? They look a bit too close together to me but I've never seen it up close.

Apparently today the nest box will work for her egg. Go figure. Maybe it is warmer far from the door. 🤷‍♂️

I've noticed it can take a long time for the chickens to adjust to a new thing in their environment. They still don't eat much from their second feeder and they've had for almost a year.

They're such creatures of habit!
