Who needs stairs..I'm going to use the wings! This made me smile.
Here is one:I don’t think I have ever heard a squirrel calling an alarm.
I'm terrible with silhouettes, but the size & width of the wings to the body and head would suggest a buteo? Like a Red-Tail Hawk. All you hawk experts - are any of these pictures good enough to identify this potential chicken-eater?
Apologies for lots of bad quality blurry photos - it is all I ever get to see.

Oh, I am so sorry, Alex. No words can help your sorrow, but we remember her and remember the special connection you had with her!Beetov-Hen left us this morning. I found her body still warm, but against the coop door (as if wanting out to say goodbye)![]()

I am so sorry Alex, for your pain over losing a dear friend and for Beethoven-Hen, whose chickeny life was cut short.Beetov-Hen left us this morning. I found her body still warm, but against the coop door (as if wanting out to say goodbye)![]()
You did a lot for her, and there likely wasn't anything that could be done that wouldn't have just prolonged her discomfort a little while longer. So those thoughts are natural to have, but you don't have to heed them as meaningful here, because we are not in control, it is impossible to really be in total control of these things. Your pastor and church friends might be good to call on, and we are here for youI knew it was her time to go, but that thought of “what could I have done better “ is in my head![]()
I did think possible turkey vulture and am not sure. The wings do not seem dihedral enough (wing tips toward the sky at an angle to the body) but with a few photos hard to tell. Does it fly "tippy" with any breeze? That's a great clue. The broad end of the wing tips don't speak vulture. Actually first impression was eagle-like, thus Red-Tail, or a large buteo. They look dark to me live but I only ever see them against the sky. Could it be a turkey vulture?
We are all sad for you. It is never easy to lose a good friend.I’m hanging in there. I apologize if I made anyone sad today. I do thank everyone here for being so supportive. FBF pic:
