You Can't Go Home Again

Not if Aurora is running things.

Every evening when I have all the ladies out to free range, the big girls go to bed first. Tonight, for example, Hattie and Lilly were actually roosted when I opened the door to let them out. Lilly did come out but Hattie was not having it. She stayed roosted.

So usually the bigs all roost, I close of access to their site of the coop, and the Polish eventually find their way to the Cluckle hut and go to bed via the door to the big run.

Something New Happened Tonight
Tonight when Sydney went in and roosted, Phyllis went in and roosts a well. Here she is next to Hattie on the main roost.

Well I started the camera and recorded what happened when Aurora realized Phyllis was in there on the roost. It takes Aurora 4 minutes to fully evict Phyllis from the coop.

So she wound up in the Cluckle Hut with Betty.

Something in the Air

Betty was also looking for alternate roosting locations tonight. Everyone new chicken tries roosting here but decides it won't work. Betty came to a similar conclusion and went to bed in the Hut.

Poor Phyllis, but I’m glad she has Betty now to roost with. I think eventually they will be actual friends. ❤️

I may go the plastic shed route. Check these out! I would need to figure out how to add windows. I like the hardware cloth on the doors idea. I think I could lay down some sort of base rock, level it, and put large pavers on top for under the shed floor.

Dotty’s mugshot for Monday.

These next two shots are out of focus (photographing Dotty is difficult if you don’t want to lose your fingers) but they show what a mess she is still in. This is on the day she got sopping wet and of course then it was below freezing at night. She is definitely eating - you can see her crop bulge - and I could see some new feathers coming in.

Aww, poor girl!

Hi Dorothy. :frow You are missed my friend. That Cashew is adorable. 🥰
Thanks. Miss you guys, but trying to not fall crazy behind. I got home in time for the girjs to have a very quick run around before bed. Even Millie limped out a bit! I’m putting her up at night and taking her down in the morning in hopes it helps her heal.

(I know you meant Dorothy, but miss you guys regardless.)

Is he an Angus? Looks pretty quiet to me...

Yes he’s full angus, black with at least one red parent, you can see the red undertones in full sun, and het for horns 😈 as the farm found out in a whole bunch of his offspring. That may be another reason they didn’t really like him. Given the opportunity I will go for some Heary Coos, if I am getting pet cattle! But yes Gus was extremely well behaved, and docile, especially for an angus. But the number one complaint was he is big and mean and scary🙄.
