Impossible to get any sort of antibiotics here without a Vet, luckily my Equine Vet knows I was a Nurse and has an excellent 35+ year established relationship with me, luckily I just email him and he can get me my animals meds. I also have a good small animal Vet who is a good avian vet (must phone her tomorrow about Henny Penny).

Not sure if this link can send to Cnd.... Does anyone on here know?
So, my situation with Roostie’s stubborn and awful Bumble foot was probably long enough before you joined our little chat, but yes… our vet situation up here for poultry is Dire. On the West coast just awful! I ga e up on finding a vet for him, based on my 2018/19 experiences trying to source some coccidia treatments. Some of my lovely chicken friends here did some internet oh for me and finally found one in our general area. I spent a LOT of cash on that beautiful free Rooster, but not the thousands the vet wanted to charge me for x-rays and surgery. So yes, some of those pet supply companies do ship here. I found Lady Gouldian Finch to be reliable, but a little slow in shipping (though that was in the midst of the pandemic mail crisis, as post services were overwhelmed by separate Christmas celebrations etc) a couple hundred in pet supplies (order before you need them!) is better than thousands at a vet that only reluctantly treats chickensnot for use in food birds, of course but Roostie was a dear pet.

Jaffar only does that, when something upsets him. I held him a while and he calmed down
I have come to the conclusion that it's the laces on winter boots he has an issue with; my cousin was over last night and her boot are all laced up the front like two pairs of mine. Pangoo took great exception to her boots attacking them with gusto!

Thank you for your kind words. I've replayed this in my head all day. Why did she try to fly off when she did. I was not late letting them out. She always, always waited until everyone else was out of the coop before she came out. In fact most times I would pick her up and set her down outside. I do not think anything spooked her. I love these silkies so much, but they have also caused a lot of heartbreak. I'm just over a week out now for the Chiquita eggs to possibly hatch. Instead of excitement I'm now filled with dread imagining what is going to go wrong. Poor Branch is beside himself, I let him see her body after it happened but he searched and called for her all day. He did not want to roost tonight, I had to put him up 5 times. He kept flying down calling for her. I am not going to try and find another hen. I will just have to hope that if the eggs hatch that at least 1 is a pullet. If it is in the cards and Chiquita goes broody I will let her hatch out a few eggs. They will not be the Branch x Poppy chicks I was looking forward to this spring, but they will at least be Branch babies.
Poor fellow. 😥 It can be heartbreaking to see them deal with their loss. They really do feel for each other and miss each other greatly. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Ya Vet service costs are out of control here. Just crazy.

I have no words...💖💖💖💖💖

She seemed to let it go and was more herself than she had ever been since the attack. She even reminded Sydney that she is above her in pecking order once......... just because.
Oh Bob… I am so sorry for your loss and the trauma to Hattie… and the whole tribe. :hugs Good to see Hattie starting to recover. They do get traumatized, and there’s a lot going on in those chicken brains and hearts that we don’t always fully know. She will eventually get back to herself more and more.:hugs:hugs:hugs

After the mink attack here, which occurred in their coop, I had to physically put almost all 60 of the survivors up the first three nights (after I repaired the door, trapped and shot the mink, and cleaned the coop thoroughly and put in fresh bedding). “Not safe there anymore” was the chicken consensus. Five girls persisted in attempting to roost anywhere as far from the coop as possible for almost two weeks. Trees, fences, under my trailer, you name it, anywhere but the site of the attack.
