Thanks for the update I was wondering.

I am going to ask my Equine vet to see Henny Sat, I need to get some meds for my horse so may as well get her to look at Henny....

What sort of probiotics are you using ?
I got 2 different ones in order to vary the bacteria. I'll post later when I can get photos.

If you can get this to work I'm interested. 😆
I looked into the one @bgmathteach posted and it has all the design features I wanted. The bad news is I won't make a fortune from patenting my design, the good news is that I can get exactly what I want!
So I decided to fork out the cash and have ordered it.
I will probably play around with my cork idea on the other one just to see if it works - but I can do it without a full 4 gallons of water pouring all over me and the Chicken Palace and I could do it on a lovely sunny day!

Tax - some ladies enjoying some time exploring in the field.

I am with you. Yesterday was like a tease. It was over 60 and sunny so the ladies and I had a grand old time outside. Now we are under another storm warning and it is snowing. I can hear the ladies making a racket and it isn't even light. They sound grumpy. Probably because it is cold again.
Minus -19 on my truck driving in to work this morning, but it's clear and a big beautiful blazing golden sun popping up over the horizon.

My gang is also grumpy, the little tease of mild weather on Monday had them hoping to be out more boohoo... I told them soon! Soon the bugs will be out and moths, it's hilarious watching them jump catching moths.

You know I thought about this. Just fill the holes with a wash cloth. That will delay the water coming out long enough to flip it over successfully.

So yesterday warmed up to 15F....thats almost a 35 degree change from the overnight low. after dark, it was back down to -14F, but at 3am, was up to -6F. Now up to -3F, and still an hour to daylight. Forecast says pushing 20F for high today, so we'll see where its at in an hour. looks like the worst of this round is past, with the rest leaving today. The chooks have stayed put, but will be glad to get out again. Even Castor has been hiding in his house. We tucked his food dish inside it for him (he hates eating in there) so he doesn't have to move much. Also hoping it keeps the deer out of his food :barnie
Looking forward to getting some new pics this weekend with the temps improving.

Return to Normal

Betty and Phyllis roosted together last night.

I watched as I believe that Phyllis courted Betty last night. Normally Phyllis goes to roost early. Last night she went to roost and then came back out to free range with Betty. She stayed with Betty until Betty decided to roost. Then they went to roost together in the Hut.

I wonder if Hattie was sad without her new neighbor?

So glad to hear that things may be moderating for you. :D

As long as we get more moisture (rain, snow, sleet, hail....) I don't care. Last year we had hay crops take a beating due to the drought. There are farmers hovering on the edge. If we get another year like that, many will go under. The whole region (from roughly San Franscisco latitude north into Canada, mainland areas) and east to the Mississippi longitudinal area is dry. If we could package up Kris' rain and spread it across the mainland, over the mountains and blanket the fields with it, I would quite happily do so. A cool, wet summer would suit me just fine, refilling reservoirs and soaking everything. If it's another dry summer, we will deal with it as that's life. Meanwhile, enjoy the Three Squawkers.

Ooooh. @bgmathteach genius! i had not noticed that it was smaller. I noticed the handle which is also a game changer!
It is pricey but with warmer nights coming, maybe there will be a sale.
@RoyalChick I think it is a bit cheaper on amazon (?$5?). Yes, still pricey, but IF you end up liking it, probably worth it. Hopefully there will be a sale soon. ????
