All are supposedly 'Americauna', but they must just really be EE, as they lay blue-green eggs...so not true Americauna :(

The cat is a rescue, so I am assuming a long haired domestic feline 'mutt'. She picked me.:love
They are lovely.

And those are the best pets, the ones who pick you 💖

Our ravens here are as big as chickens haha, I love when they are doing their mating flying - and they are smart little turnips!

I also like that they alert the chickies to predators!
Mine are also about the size of the larger chickens, not quite rooster sized though! Sammy has run one off before, but he also tried to take on the yearling cattle so… (it took a little bit for the two yearlings to realize they had about 500lbs on him each and outnumbered him 2:1, then they chased him back, it was quite a day!)

These Ravens spotted the tractor, and the tractor brings the tasty bits to “the death pit” (named such by the former farm resident child… has a nice ring to it when said by a seven year old!) all the inedible offal, and waste from cutting and wrapping gets deposited in a disposal pit. And essentially feeds the local Eagles, Ravens, and Turkey Vultures. The Farm Shoots them, because they also like to attack newborn Lambs, steals the managers corn, and make awful noises.

I Love them. I feed them eggs, and encourage “my” pairs to stay near my chickens. There is no Raven Shooting this side of the gulley. None. They will drive off the Hawks, and Eagles, and don’t bother my chickens at all. The even pretend to chicken, to move into the group and get feed. If they try to land amongst the hens the roosters object. Flying birds are bad birds! But if they walk up, they can often sneak right in… “don’t mind the funny beak, I’m just another chicken, really…”

We don’t have crows on our side (south) of the island, but I have seen some down by the pub/gas station which was surprising. I also love crows. There’s just something about birds that are smarter than most people…

Trap update. Raccoon sized trap was Sprung and the Hamburger is gone. Nothing in the trap. I think it’s quite possible the mink did it, as the last one was able To squeeze out between the door and cage. Hoping it will try the smaller trap next. I have a frozen mink killed pullet from my friend that caught the 8 mink thawing.

It was -28C this morning...

I cannot stress enough how much I hate winter 😁

It was -2C in the hen house when I let everyone out this morning, and -10c in the main part of the barn... Brrrrr I brought the horses back in around 11 to keep the barn a bit warm....

Meanwhile my now 13 week old chickies are hanging out by the cozy panel heater!
And I thought I was tough dealing with -6C! :lau And when I lived in London, the Brits thought -2C was cold!

He's adorable and don't you love the sound they make. Branch started off sounding like a kazoo when he first crowed. 3 months later, he still sounds like a kazoo only its just slightly louder.
Oh dear, I LOL’d!
