I may have discussed this on another thread, years back and the Vitamin C bit, as our cattle also nibble white pines… I learned it’s a good way to get absolutely lambasted about cattle miscarriages and toxic, awful pine trees and that posting anything online from personal experiences is a good way to attract jerks.Did you know Chooks like to nibble on pine needles? When a branch falls in the wind with 'fresh' aka 'green' needles, I put it in the run and they nibble little bits off of it until there are just the nubbins left of the needles. It needs to either be a large enough branch that they can pull/twist bits off, or on smaller 'twigs' use a sturdy clamp to clamp it to something. Great enrichment for them...and Vit. C supplement as well!
(and no, have never had impacted nor slow crop from this. They really do break off little bits.)
I lack a plane, and have no idea if this AV-gas is cheaper or more expensive than standard gas normally… we don’t carry AV-gas on island, just Marine, Marked, Regular, Diesel and Marked Diesel. And Propane is now up to $1.87CAD/lb! Way cheaper in town as their prices fluctuate with the market, on Island we are Stuck with whatever the supplier paid at time of delivery plus markup… and it doesn’t change until the next purchase/delivery (usually about quarterly on gas, and twice a year on propane)I was speaking of aircraft fuel (AV-Gas)
Ouch! You don’t have much choice. I may have to pay shra on this, but I think it's a perfectly workable short term coop. My only question is will it provide enough headroom for you? Because it doesn't look roomy enough for me to move around freely, but perhaps I'm larger than you are.So DH is now not loving the idea of building a coop and run from scratch. Two of these might work to get us up and running quickly at the new place. Some modifications would be needed, if course.
Thoughts?

You know the one thing Imperial is far better for is building supplies… it just doesn’t translate or make any sense in Metric. I am pretty good at eyeballing and rough math.Yup!! And it is soooo much more straight forward than our wonky system...nothing jives nor is consistent units wise!
So, more work, more confusion, and more out of step with the rest of the world!!!!![]()
That's a great idea!Very similar but less scientific. I ran out of space for the bags of dried leaves - am thinking of putting hooks in the rafters of the Chicken Palace so I can store them up there to dry out for winter use.
A bag could be tied shut, couldn't it?Perish the thought! But of course you are right, a Roadrunner will fly up there to lay her eggs almost certainly. I need to think of plan B. This year I had 3 bags in the back of my car which is really not the most convenient solution!

Yes I think so. And I could also put it higher than they can fly (maybe). I investigated some ideas this afternoon. The trouble is I am not very tall and a bag of leaves - particularly before it has dried out is quite heavy. I am confident I can solve this, just some more noodling needed!A bag could be tied shut, couldn't it?
I'm the same! I measure my height in imperial, distances in both, everything else in metric (even building supplies!)You know the one thing Imperial is far better for is building supplies… it just doesn’t translate or make any sense in Metric. I am pretty good at eyeballing and rough math.ask me about my cement patio steps that ended up absolutely perfect and to code for rise/run, square and level, based on… “that looks about right, I still have to put the cladding on it, it will be fine…” I shocked myself almost as much as DH when I checked them (I was expecting acceptable-ish, he was expecting total failure “You didn’t freaking measure ANYTHING! Are you mad???”)
I’m pretty annoying myself in bouncing between systems, a product of my age. Weight I will use grams, then ounces down to a 1/4 oz, pounds, especially for veggies, but for selling meat and fish products it’s all in grams and kg. Liquid measures I will generally use litres for fuel etc, but can usually do the gallon conversions, quickly. Cooking is of course in Cups, distance is mm, then 1/8+in inches, feet, then meters and kms.
However the two Most frustrating ones for me are temperatures because the Fahrenheit/Celsius comparisons make NO sense whatsoever, and the USD to CAD or anytime I need to figure out two or more of the numbers together!![]()
