I do believe that Teensie and Weensie may have stopped laying, with all the egg eating it’s quite hard to tell 😠 but another promised “I should get some pictures of that…” actually happened yesterday, check out the Spurs on these ladies! I now believe I know where the “horn” in leghorn comes from! And these girls are only 1/2 Leghorns! (Assuming breeder was accurate…) please excuse Princess’s not so fluffy butt in the background.View attachment 3014764View attachment 3014776View attachment 3014784
How old are Teensie & Weensie? I find nearly all of my older hens get spurs. Some are small...but some quite large like these - or bigger. Mind you, my 'older hens' aren't old...except that they are for hatchery stock. My oldest was Rosie, 5 1/2 years old when she passed...and a couple others made it to 5 before passing. Rest that I'm talking about were 3.5 or 4.5 y.o. and had spurs. (most are culled by 4.5 yrs old, other than a few special ones.)

Some pictures of a few of my boys, just because: (and an interloper or two!)

Daisy, the greatest hen ever, never burped when eating spaghetti either. Just saying. 🤷‍♂️

You know, @BY Bob , if you were able to kind of 'green screen' the background of this picture, it would make an absolutely wonderful print of Daisy with her spaghetti! It has such wonderful black & white texture....with the red comb & wattle juxtaposing the B & W:love:love:love

It is Saturday and I am retired so I decided it was OK to sit in the chicken garden and do the crossword puzzle.
I heard contented noises but couldn’t see any chickens until I looked almost under my seat and found this.
🥰

Just lovely. This winter I sat down on the ground in my run and seven of my birds gathered around and had a preening party on and around me. I could see the little pieces of their feather casings dropping onto my outstretched legs.
It felt like communing with chickens. We all alerted together to unexpected noises.
What was that? Oh, some snow fell off a tree.
What was that? Oh, a raven's wings as it flew by.
What was that? Oh, the tarp flapping in a sudden breeze.
I felt like this was the closest I have experienced so far of what it would be like to be part of a flock.
I wanted to take a picture, but felt it would ruin the mood and besides Ruth was standing on my hand!

It is a very artsy photo for sure. Daisy (GHE) glamor shot.
