Unless I’m there eating an apple, then they have some. But when I cut them up and scatter them on the ground they lose interest!
Hang them in the run like a cabbage. Mine love them like that. Gone in a flash! Remember, when they have lots of area to explore & scratch, they don't need those things so much. when free ranging. However, they (apples, etc.) would be great for when you have to go into town and need to keep them locked up in the coop/run, though!

I strung up a bunch of old CD’s in the run, giving them something to entertain with but next thing I knew, they were trying to $ell then by the front gate, to people on the highway. :gig Yes I’m kidding. (The CD collection, wasn’t that popular):lau

Okay, here goes:
1) I see green in those videos (other than the cabbage)
2) It appears they are out free ranging?
3) They have never seen a whole cabbage before
4) They are CHICKENS (i.e. new things are deadly!)

So, why would we🐔🐓🐔 want to nibble on something potentially dangerous, that we have no idea what it is, when there are plenty of greens about, plus I can scratch up a few bugs (YUM) too.

Suggestion: Hang it in their run/pen when it is too miserable to be out. Cut it in half, so there are 'edges' that are easy to peck at/off. When hanging it, use your treat voice/call. And if all of that fails, take a bit of peanut butter, smear thinly on the outside, and sprinkle with scratch grain or some other small treat that they like and will stick. Finally: give them a day or two to be comfortable with the scarey new thing. 😌

Don't thank me....😉you'll be cursing me when they devour multiple of them in 5 minutes, and you have to spend a fortune to "keep them in cabbbages!":lau
What excellent idea. :love

Peanut butter and scratch worked great to teach them to use the nipple waterer.

My day was not my own! Spent my morning with my horse, and all the rest of the day with the chickens (only thing for myself was stopping for gas) and I haven’t eaten anything except an apple 🍏 so I’m having breakfast for dinner. Gas prices are painful 😖

A useless comment...
Then the planks of dead wood shouldn't have them. :old

I would be nervous to, so I wouldn't attempt keeping one but in time, if i got stuck in the situation I know I would get over my fear.
Maybe I do have a functioning brain cell after all 🤔
Unfortunately, if you want to raise beef cattle you need the cows to get pregnant, Bulls play an integral role in this… and as someone who is 65-68 and was raised farming cattle… there’s no excuse to be afraid of a basic part of essentially your “job”. Like a computer tech being afraid of their keyboard. And it’s no excuse to neglect or be rough with it.
