Oh and here is something about grandma that kills me. She loves my chickens, but refuses to eat a fresh egg. Do you know how bad it hurts me inside to have to buy store eggs when I am getting now over a dozen a day and swimming in eggs.

Hahaha I hear ya!Oh and here is something about grandma that kills me. She loves my chickens, but refuses to eat a fresh egg. Do you know how bad it hurts me inside to have to buy store eggs when I am getting now over a dozen a day and swimming in eggs.
Oh you have so read my heartI'm sorry about your boys but I totally understand the situation. I'm just going to play devils advocate here. It seemed you sorta liked for the most part having a rooster around. Have you thought about finding a silkie rooster or some other bantam rooster that needs a good home? A smaller boy would be easier on your girls. My best boy when it comes to watching the sky for hawks is actually Branch. The bigger boys keep a eye out for dogs and other things but ignore the sky.
They're supposed to be planters. The chickens have commandeered them.Do you use those as planters, or are they for the chickens? I used to grow potatoes in a bunch of old tires but I stopped growing potatoes and vaguely wondered about repurposing the tires for the chickens.
I always liked going to parks and feeding the waterfowl there. They can be intimidating. Particularly en masse.
But then I get all guilty about having to get rid of the boys and think it's a bad ideaOh you have so read my heart
I have been looking at Satin Silkies to see what colours are available. I would love a barred rock pattern satin silkie roo (oh bad Kelly, bad bad Kelly).....
Cheetah does a fabulous job with the sky too. Hamburgs, Campines, and Polish are all at the small end of standard sized breeds. There's a few others too (would have to go look them up). He's smaller than most of my hens, yet makes up for it with his posing, posturing, and volume.I'm sorry about your boys but I totally understand the situation. Does she have to see the eggs before you break the shells? Can you refill a commercial carton to put in the fridge as her "store" eggs?Oh and here is something about grandma that kills me. Take your time on it, but keep your eyes and ears open. Maybe you'll run across something on Craigs list (or whatever the local equivalent is) or in the newspaper that just speaks to your heart. But then I get all guilty about having to get rid of the boys and think it's a bad idea![]()
I think I remember you mentioning that before. How about some surreptitious restocking of the store cartons in the fridge? Or am I a bad person for suggesting that?Oh and here is something about grandma that kills me. She loves my chickens, but refuses to eat a fresh egg.
