@micstrachan

How are doing Michelle? And the rest of you ladies? I hope everyone is ok today 💖
Thanks for asking. The birds seem fine. I’m still sad, but grateful to have been there and focused on the fact that, aside from Ruby, who had an incredible will to live and LOTS if intervention, the chickens dying seem to be the young ones. I think that’s a clue.

You okay Michelle? “I think that’s a clue “
You said. I’m hoping that you haven’t become disenchanted :idunno:hugs Losses are hard to take, I know. I have been close to disenchantment myself many times over several years. Yet… I still have my chooks. Seems it doesn’t get any easier either.

Guys, I've made it half way of this thread... I'm on page 4403, May 7, 2021. This means that the most recent half were made within ELEVEN MONTHS. Seriously, look at what you all have done.

I have Inky's fluffy butt to share.

I was keeping an eye on everyone's chickens when I came to myself to post some pictures of my own! Here are some photos of my 12 white leghorn chicks that I brought home a few hours ago. They are currently keeping me up with their little chirps. LoL They are in my living room at the moment! And I have not decided yet, it will take time, but in honor of my original Daisy, and Buff Daisy, and @BY Bob s Daisy the sweetest one will be named Daisy. After all I'm not Daisybuff without a daisy!

No news. I have asked the man who comes to close them up at night to send some pictures when he can.
Hard to know if I'm better off not knowing. I think about them a lot.
I am in tears. Through this thread and Shad's stories, I have developed deep affection to the tribes. The pain of leaving them would have been unbearable to me. I feel like I am also saying goodbye to them.

I know Shad's has chickens again and that will be the next thread to catch up... But but ...

I suppose we all have to say goodbye to each other sooner or later.

I hate that I have started being unhappy about wild birds. I would always enjoy watching the Canada Geese flying overhead, now I just worry about them pooping in flight (do geese poop and fly or do they hold it until they land??!).
Kris - did you mention finches because you have native finches? They are the only bird other than water fowl and raptors that I have read being mentioned specifically as vectors.
Right now it seems like it is mainly the Atlantic and Central fly ways. You are West of that aren’t you?
I believe most of the finches are here year round… but I could be wrong. The starlings are definitely migratory. I also think the Canada geese usually poop while on the ground. I am about as far west as you can get in Canada… so far I am not aware of any outbreaks in our vicinity. I’m also glad we are getting local meat chicks this year and not bringing any in from Alberta, often the mountains will slow the spread of things like west Nile, rabies, and such… so fingers crossed.

Well it is official, I will be incubating Guinea eggs after my chicks hatch. My sawdust guy just dropped by and asked if my incubator was empty and to pick up 3 dozen eggs. Told him it was full and asked why. One of his friends has Guinea's and they are laying like crazy and offered to give him some eggs to hatch. I told him if he could wait until after this round hatches I'll try to hatch off as many eggs as he wants. Well, he asked how many my turner holds and I told him 42, he said he'd be back when it was time with 42 eggs. And when I asked him how much would the guy charge for eggs as my uncle was wanting to find some, but he only wants 2 he told me if I would incubate them and they hatched I could give my uncle 2 to 6 for free. Now, I will have to drill it into Rosie's head that these eggs are spoken for and she is NOT to ask to keep any of the keets. Our place is not big enough for guinea's.
Next it will be Emus… 😉

? what does that mean? Unfortunately, I'm clueless. I certainly hope that it wasn't the chicks you got were bad stock. I'll have to reread... the last month in my 'catch-up' effort......

:hugs:hugs🤗🤗:hugs:hugsLots of hugs & love sent your way...
It’s not a clue after all. I just suck at taking care of chickens. I just saw the prelim report snd Sunshine died of a fatty liver hemorrhage. I’m so sad about that and don’t understand how a young, low ranked hen could be fat in my flock. This is an ongoing problem in my flock, despite trying to slim them down. I need to ration feed again.
