So, dinner out was nice, but the food was a disappointment. Extremely salty, and the fried brussell sprouts - which I thought were pan fried - were deep fried and overcooked. Trying to be healthy with that appetizer :( (They, too, were exceedingly salty.) However, the time spent with hubby was nice, and I bumped into a former student who is now a trauma nurse for sexual assault victims. So nice to see someone doing well & doing good! So, overall, it was a nice, but short, evening out :)

Okay, @rural mouse , I think I'm going to change my answer to what is behind door #1, lol.

After looking at the chicks feet/legs again, I think they are neither 'white' nor 'yellow', but 'flesh colored'. They aren't 'white' like baby orpington chicks, but they aren't 'yellow' like BR chicks. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.

I suspect it will be a very lightly barred CM. This is the best I can come up with given the breeds that Meyer Hatchery offers.

I've attached pics. Please excuse the operator's poor pic taking skills:

Sorry the food was disappointing but good to have an evening out anyway. Shame on brussel sprouts - a good pan fried brussel sprout is very yummy!
I will help you all out on the breed discussion by deploying all my expertise on the topic. Here is the answer: that chick will very clearly grow up to become a .. .. .. .. chicken.
You heard it here first.

There is a 'dusting' of black, right at what would be the back of the hand for us (top of foot where it attaches to the leg...and also the outer-most toe on both sides has a 'dusting', too...right foot more than left. I'll try for better pics tomorrow in the light where it doesn't need a flash...it takes longer for it to 'take' the picture when it uses a flash, and the chick wiggles & the picture becomes blurry.

Whatever she is, she is cute & sweet! (except for pooping on my shoulder...TWICE!)
Well, going back through Meyer's birds, the following list came out based upon barring/comb/leg color disqualified (supposed egg color was ignored). Lake shore egger, olive egger, grey ranger/kosher king (like what Cuckoo looks like, except where I got her doesn't have those), and Swedish flower hen (mostly due to the leg color, most chick pics (from other places) are less black and more brown/cream). The 2 Eggers have assorted colors, beards/muffs iffy, and barring is a maybe. Its going to be a wait and see...

Ya seriously 😁

Very sorry, I was hoping that your dinner would be fabulous.(all that time waiting through Covid) but glad you got out.

I think I’ll try this in a day or two… this mama has taken in extras at 10 days old before without problems. As soon as the wound has healed up enough for it to keep up… or she may be getting hand raised… I wouldn’t say she’s thriving but definitely doing too well to cull IMO. I think she will recover, but the tear is in a very awkward place it’s on the top of the leg between the leg and body, almost under the tiny wing… their skin is so delicate when they are babies I’m having a really hard time getting it to stay closed, but it’s not bleeding at all.
So, I know this is hard with fuzzy chicks...but I had to do this once. If it is somewhat under the wing....can you take a lady's razor and shave the fuzz....or trim with scissors...and either put a couple of stitches in the skin to hold it together....or use some steri strips? If you have a wide 'scar' because the skin edges aren't close, you can end up with 1 or two problems: skin adhesion as it regrows, and a large area that never grows feathers.

I have used just regular (but the smaller ones) hand sewing needles and cotton thread. Sterilze both (either use a betadine solution, or white vinegar wet/soak both needle & thread.) And tie a large knot so it doesn't pull through/tear the delicate skin.

Seriously glad this week is over between crappy weather, migraines, and herding cats at work and now my 'post herpatic neuralgia' (side effect of past shingles) acting up, I am just about fed up.

If I were closer than Rebecca I would drive over to her place and the both of us run away hahahaha

But then I would miss my geegees and chickies 💖 and all their antics!

Ok more chicken tax

Get away, like “Thelma and Louise”? :gig

Ok, so all working Australians' earnings go up every year automatically to allow for the cost of living going up. Small increments every year.

Entirely separate to that is promotion, which happens as expertise and seniority and leadership develop. Big increment, when you're ready.

She's a senior practitioner now. Her next step up is to wider leadership. That big increment in her pay will afford her a day off each week. She'll switch the extra money for the day off, receiving only 80% of her salary.

The other factor in her financial modelling is the mortgage, which will be paid off by then, freeing her from a big financial commitment.
This sounds like a very sensible system… especially the consideration for rising costs of living… that is something that we should have here as well. I won’t go into the difference between minimum wage and a living wage here, but suffice it to say the gap between the two is significant.
Chicken Tax: (sure Bob goes away and I actually start paying my chicken taxes!)

So adorable!!! Sorry your dinner out was a little disappointing. If you mainly cook at home and don’t use a lot of salt I’ve noticed that almost all restaurant meals taste quite salty… and that’s coming from someone raised on salt fish meals at least every two weeks (mostly because the salt cod was very hard to source here in the west coast… or my Nan would have made it multiple times a week!) DH has been on a low sodium diet forever… so over the last decade I’ve adjusted and now taste salt far more sensitively.
Oh ya yummy salt fish and Brewis yum yum 😊 with potatoes and scrunchins and fried onions hahaha very healthy !!?
