So, dinner out was nice, but the food was a disappointment. Extremely salty, and the fried brussell sprouts - which I thought were pan fried - were deep fried and overcooked. Trying to be healthy with that appetizer :( (They, too, were exceedingly salty.) However, the time spent with hubby was nice, and I bumped into a former student who is now a trauma nurse for sexual assault victims. So nice to see someone doing well & doing good! So, overall, it was a nice, but short, evening out :)

Okay, @rural mouse , I think I'm going to change my answer to what is behind door #1, lol.

After looking at the chicks feet/legs again, I think they are neither 'white' nor 'yellow', but 'flesh colored'. They aren't 'white' like baby orpington chicks, but they aren't 'yellow' like BR chicks. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.

I suspect it will be a very lightly barred CM. This is the best I can come up with given the breeds that Meyer Hatchery offers.

I've attached pics. Please excuse the operator's poor pic taking skills:

Those appear almost orange! Curiosity bug is going hard! No black on the legs, orange tone, straight comb, frosted tips on black feathers.... going to be browsing through more chick pics again. Going back to Meyer's website....

Sorry the food wasn't great, but glad you enjoyed the evening

Seriously glad this week is over between crappy weather, migraines, and herding cats at work and now my 'post herpatic neuralgia' (side effect of past shingles) acting up, I am just about fed up.

If I were closer than Rebecca I would drive over to her place and the both of us run away hahahaha

But then I would miss my geegees and chickies 💖 and all their antics!

Ok more chicken tax

Ok, so all working Australians' earnings go up every year automatically to allow for the cost of living going up. Small increments every year.

Entirely separate to that is promotion, which happens as expertise and seniority and leadership develop. Big increment, when you're ready.

She's a senior practitioner now. Her next step up is to wider leadership. That big increment in her pay will afford her a day off each week. She'll switch the extra money for the day off, receiving only 80% of her salary.

The other factor in her financial modelling is the mortgage, which will be paid off by then, freeing her from a big financial commitment.
Many businesses here offer flex hours, the worker will work an extra hour or so a day and Bank the hrs to take a short work week.

But that only works if the business can allow for a worker to be away. In my case I tried to take a day off yesterday for my migraine and it didn't work so well because I have no backup to take up the slack at work.

Soon though I will be retiring in a few short years 🤗 counting the days!

One of my friends aims to cut her hours as she gains promotion, by stepping down to 0.8 then 0.6. That way, although her income is stabilised (apart from the annual cost of living increases), she'll have more time free to spend as she chooses. Does that make sense?
That makes absolute sense...and the 'cost of living' increase really just stabilizes it in terms of purchasing power. Unfortunately there is no advancement for me...unless I want to leave advising and go into management (teaching is unbenefited/adjunct work.), which I absolutely don't want to do...as I love working with the students. And, Advising is year round, so I can't even drop down to a 10 month contract, lose a bit of pay percent wise, but gain time.....:( You have a clever and fortunate friend!

:barnie:barnie:barnie I have the little chick with me still, and she keeps pecking the keyboard...so if I miss an extra random letter or number...it is all her fault.:lau

Okay..Tax:

There is a 'dusting' of black, right at what would be the back of the hand for us (top of foot where it attaches to the leg...and also the outer-most toe on both sides has a 'dusting', too...right foot more than left. I'll try for better pics tomorrow in the light where it doesn't need a flash...it takes longer for it to 'take' the picture when it uses a flash, and the chick wiggles & the picture becomes blurry.

Whatever she is, she is cute & sweet! (except for pooping on my shoulder...TWICE!)

Oh dear sorry to hear that. Hens, what ya gonna do?

Is the chick thriving? Any chance of a sneak in at night?
I think I’ll try this in a day or two… this mama has taken in extras at 10 days old before without problems. As soon as the wound has healed up enough for it to keep up… or she may be getting hand raised… I wouldn’t say she’s thriving but definitely doing too well to cull IMO. I think she will recover, but the tear is in a very awkward place it’s on the top of the leg between the leg and body, almost under the tiny wing… their skin is so delicate when they are babies I’m having a really hard time getting it to stay closed, but it’s not bleeding at all.

So adorable!!! Sorry your dinner out was a little disappointing. If you mainly cook at home and don’t use a lot of salt I’ve noticed that almost all restaurant meals taste quite salty… and that’s coming from someone raised on salt fish meals at least every two weeks (mostly because the salt cod was very hard to source here in the west coast… or my Nan would have made it multiple times a week!) DH has been on a low sodium diet forever… so over the last decade I’ve adjusted and now taste salt far more sensitively.
