That is sweet of you to say. This thread is a lot of work all on its own. I do have a job and a wife. Not to mention my own chickens to spend time with. 😁

Rehab the Prefab

Since last Friday I have been on a quest to rehabilitate the old prefab coop from 2013. I promised Mrs BY Bob that I would beautify the backyard this year. So I decided that it rotting away in front of the shed was unattractive. I thought that I could paint it in a day and be done.

🙄

Right

I finished the majority of the work last night. I did a quick assembly this morning before work.

I also decided that I wanted to make it pretty so if I use it then it will not "junk up" the backyard.

On Monday my dad was over and told me how insane I was to be wasting so much time on it. This was while i was using a small craft brush to paint the corners of the peach panels.

"Just paint the whole thing with the spray gun and be done. The chickens don't care."

Mrs BY Bob cares.

What do you all think?

There is still work to be done. The nest box is missing 2 bolts, has no floor and no roof. It needs a new coop floor and a new ramp.

Despite that I think I have saved it for a few more years. The run is in much worse shape and will need wood work to be made whole again.
Looking good! Very pretty.

Do you have a medium/large dog crate? If so, you can wrap top & 3 sides with cardboard, plastic, towel, anything...and leave the side with the door unwrapped/open so she can go in and out at will, & facing the sun. (It is heading into your winter there, yes?) This may be a bit too much, but I have used an empty jug, filled with very hot water and wrapped in either cardboard or a towel (think, hot water bottle), and put it in a protected space as a mini warmer (I've also done this with a bucket for the coop at night on really bitter cold nights.)

Was it also a concern that she might pick up more coccidiae (lord knows I DON'T know the spelling of plural for the coccidosis causing bacterium:rolleyes:)
I was already to jump as you know this is my world, but I'll pause.

Coccidia

They are not bacteria. They are multicellular organisms. Much like giardia.

Yes she should be concerned about re-exposure as well as the temp.

Mix some liquid vitamins in a mash. It is possible that he is depressed and doesn't want to eat. Water and electrolytes are crucial even more than food though.
A little nutridrench if you have it. Directly feed to him might perk him up as well. It is full of sugar and vitamins.

I just wanted to say, this is the kindest and friendliest thread I have been on. You are all so very kind and welcoming. Thank you all!
It is always nice to hear that. I have been striving for that from day one. I am grateful that everyone helps to keep it that way.

These are good suggestions. 👍

This inspiring, ours is also sitting and disintegrating in a corner.
