Well we have a temporary stay. I went out and she is taking her first dust bath in 2 days. I will not interrupt something she enjoys so I'm watching and waiting for her to finish.

I know exactly what you meanHaving frizzles, trimming @ need is a must round here. The hardest part is getting them to hold still while you do it. Wrap chickie firmly in a towel & use a football hold is my advice.
Mine are the same especially princessCrazy bird left the box she was in, and moved to a different box. I don’t think that she cares who’s eggs she’s setting on.![]()
If it was me I would make them aware by being close and letting them see you handling them but that's only imo and I have never had chick'sThe cats are 21 months, so they are well past the kitten phase. They were raised as barn cats to hunt mice and were allowed in the house as pets only since this winter so they have a strong hunting instinct. There has never been any problem with the bantam, but once or twice I saw Grochatila look like he was hesitant about whether she was a bird.
I have now seen how the bantam mother reacts when the rooster comes near and it is clear she will defend them from anything and scream at the top of her lungs. This should be enough to make him hesitate and alert us. However I agree it's too early for an introduction, we'll wait till they have grown a bit.
I feel soooo guilty every time I eat chicken but its my favouriteHad roast chicken last night mmmmm
She is 2. She turned 2 February 19th. Yes she has had laying problems since her first laying season when she had a monster double yolk egg get stuck. We are now dealing with a tumor that was found already softball size about 3 weeks ago. It is bigger and is now hindering her ability to walk, and due to the posture and stance she has developed overnight now causing her pain. Wednesday was when I first saw she was starting to decline. She spent most of the day resting. I attributed that to it was near 90 and humid and I was melting cleaning stalls. Yesterday no humidity and in the 70s, still resting a lot and she refused her favorite treat. Today it is clear it is time.![]()

Is it just a need to lay?
I do remember there was an issue with her previously, but I don't recall exactly. How old is she?
I am sure she will appreciate that spot you have picked out for her!
Maybe later, when you are up to it, you can make her a headstone.( the self made 'stepping stone' things, but put a chicken foot-print in it or paint on it...with her name etched in the cement before it dries? Since she likes snakes so much, maybe you could buy a cheap plastic/rubber toy snake and put it upside down in the soft cement and press to get a snake imprint on the 'stepping-stone headstone? Or, alternatively, place it right side up & pushed in...to permanently be there to peck at when she has the inkling? Whatever you do, I think it might help with healing to 'commemorate her' with something permanent like that? Just a thought.![]()
That’s exactly what she’s thinking I bet!Are you taking a pic of my bottom???You peeping tom (Alex) you!!
