Trapped

I need to go to bed but this one is sleeping on me. What to do what to do.

Hold on. Which babies are these.
If I am going to be blamed I need to understand!
I’ve been trying to enable and encourage goats… Nubians are quite nice, docile, and handleable from what I have heard… apparently the universe was listening. And so, late last night as I’m closing in the chickens (9:30 ish) I hear those little cries I’ve been hearing on and off all day, there’s calling and answering but as I get closer to the road I realize that not only has it turned completely panicked and desperate, but that it sounds like more than one baby but no mama. So I close the door to the free range coop, and there still a little light, and I went for a little climbing experience and found these two the little white one was about 20’ below his sister, screaming his head off, barely able to stand, and his mouth was ice cold (very, very bad). The cries lead me to spotting his much better camouflaged sister. Things are looking tentatively up for the little guy, his sister took to the bottle like a pro and is a little glutton. No distressed where are my babies mama sounds today, and in the afternoon yesterday I mentioned to my mom on the phone while fencing there’s something dead over there for sure… several hundred feet away from where I found the babies, but there’s no other reason for four eagles and a set of Turkey vultures to circle. DH was NOT impressed. But it looks like my herd may now be at capacity. Arduinna really took to the little boy, not so much the girl, but they have also been using one of her crates so they are picking up some of her scent.

Well, at least I'm a 'helpful' enabler, :lau:lau

Cairen would LOVE to have some playmates!:D I"m sure with your loving, knowledgable care, they will pull through. How is their mamma?
I’m guessing as I’ve heard absolutely nothing and there were BBB and vultures circling that afternoon that she isn’t around anymore. A lot of the feral goats don’t make it here, there are also a lot of juveniles and kid skeletons around the base of the cliffs. The only real predators for them are humans and eagles, but the landscape is not really kind to the population, add in parasites like worms and it’s surprising the population has done so well.

I’m hoping mama wasn’t one of the white goats, that that came from the father. We had three pure white goats here (not counting Jimmy of course). One mature Doe, a big Buck, and a buckling born last year. I will have to keep my eyes open to see if I can spot them. Andrew’s father had a thing for the white goats. It was a rule if you were hunting goats that you not shoot the white ones, because he thought they were pretty and wanted to see them proliferate more. So if the little guy makes it he will be Named Tommy. DH and I are still working the situation out… but I do think that I just need to build a bigger goat barn.

Holy Dinah those are splendid! Way better than any pics I have taken!!!! Ok so I will try the sun-dogs instead 🤗 and the grizzly mama and her cub 💖

Oh is miss seeing crystal clear auroras 🤗
Thanks! A few years ago, I got chased by a grizzly while bike commuting!

It was very alarming! :eek:I don't think she was all the serious about catching me, but my heart was pounding for sure!

Off topic tax: One from the archives of my Buff Orpington at that awkward teenage stage! :love

Yes, let me take a look through our photo files, although we are definitely not in Northern Lights season currently. More like midnight sun season!🔆☀️

Last summer I had such a hard time getting my one year old chickens to go to bed. They wanted to party in the sun, I wanted to close up the coop, turn on the electric fence and go to sleep! This year as mature two year old ladies, they are on the roost all settled by 7:30 - 8:00 pm! :love
How did you train this? I am still up to 10pm getting mine to bed… don’t they know how early I have to wake up because of them? And we are definitely coming into small danger bear season here aka: the trash pandas are out in full force and during the daytime no less!

I think this is a case of the hens being older and just going to bed earlier. I can't take credit for that!
