In the Big Coop

I was right about one thing, Maleficent loves the house. ...
She will be hanging out inside before long. I just know it.
Looks like it’s time to investigate those chicken diapers!!! Because...
I’m just too afraid of that nasty wet poop :sick
:sick When I was bringing my rehab girls into the trailer, before the cats came up here, they were hard enough to keep on the designated “poop towels” while I was treating their feet and cooking for them and Hoppy even had a broken leg... (I’m now pretty sure based on her current limping). Remembering poor Andrew’s reaction to the nasty poops in our tiny space as he was trying to enjoy a morning coffee/snack! :lau Ok, and the berry tums/egg/chickstarter in the frying pan probably didn’t help either...:sick

Yeah, keeping them out is problematic. When we were free ranging more I'd hear these plaintive cries of: There's a chicken in the house~ sometimes accompanied by: AGAIN. I guess they're just curious about our *coop* because we could of course just roost with them!:lau

Heat Wave a'comin

It is going to be 100°F (37.8°C) tomorrow., 98°F on Sat, and 97°F on Sunday. I decided the coop needed extra ventilation so I put a window fan in the window for them. Need to move that baking air out and at least fresh air in.

Where the "F"!

I also lost the "F" off the coop. Maybe I should pull them all off, repaint them, and glue them back up. They are dropping 1 at a time.

At first glance I read... What the “F” :gig... I didn’t know where you were going with that!
Three of my gals have stopped laying because of the heat.. poor things! But two new ones have started.. they are 20 weeks.. I got one tiny egg yesterday and another today :ya

No eggs for us yesterday either. Maleficent went in late in the afternoon but decided it was simply too hot to lay. I expect if it doesn't happen early today, it won't happen.

Why I Never put Roosts in the Run

This is why.

The wife and I are over 200 miles from home and won't be back until Sunday. There is no one to put them in the coop. That's why they chose now to roost outside. Little buggers. I won't be able sleep until I get home.
:he:barnie:rant
Do you think it’s because it’s so hot out... or do you think they don’t like the fan? Didn’t you say you put a fan in the coop...? I was considering putting one in mine.. but was wondering how they’d like it... went out to move them around last night and couldn’t get over how hot it was.. and half of the roosting area doesn’t even have doors on it...!!

I'm guessing it's either the fan, but it is quiet and gentle. Hattie actually roosted in front of it last night, or the heat. Probably the heat. When they roost it is really hot out. The sun has been beating on the coop since about 3:00. It is smokey in there. Now the fan brings it down a lot. Especially as the outside cools. At midnight last night there was no panting on the roost. Not too bad.

It could also be that they got caught outside messing around late or Lilly decided to chase them out late. I will try and spy on things tonight.
