Oh no! Another brown layer! Well congratulations anyway. It's still very exciting when they start laying.

Well, although I was really hoping for a green egg I'm quite happy with a nice dark brown. At least it won't get mixed up with the older girls' eggs.

I'm afraid that all of mine are going to wind up similar in color. We are looking at minor variations in shades of brown.

Not Again!

It is with great trepidation that I put this post up. I really do not want to acknowledge that this is happening.

Maleficent is sick.

I noticed a change in her stool color a little while ago. I am not one to treat right away as I prefer for things to be handled naturally. I have seen way more problems caused by treating things that animals (and people) can handle on thier own. What this change in poo did inspire was for me to watch her behavior like a hawk (sorry for the poor choice of simile). I saw my fears brought to life yesterday when she just wasn't herself. Unless you really know her you would never pick it up but she wasn't her normal explosive self. For example, there was no zipping around stealing food from others even when I gave them pasta.

I have consulted with @casportpony (the resident poo expert, is that ok to say?). Based upon her advice, I have placed Maleficent and the flock on Corid and I am going to run a specimen to the lab tonight to see what kind of parasites she might have picked up.

For those that are curious and I was, when I weighed her this morning she came in at 4.8 lbs (2.18 kgs). I thought she would be bigger. Her personality certainly is.

Hopefully, I am acting in time. I cannot bear the thought of losing her and after Patsy I am running a little scared.

Missed my notifications again and just got caught up... those young ‘uns and their misadventures are keeping you right busy, as well as the coop updates! Hopefully you hear back soon on the test results, and Mellie gets back to her old self quickly!
