Back in the Coop

I placed Mal and her crate back in the coop for the evening . She wailed when she saw her empty nest.

Here she is in the coop with others on the roost.

Mine always take a while to come off the lay when they go broody. Remember, they need to lay the eggs before they can hatch them.

Poor @BY Bob Tell her it's the wrong time of year. If it were warmer, or going to be warmer, she could hatch n raise babies

Poor darlin... I’ve never experienced a “mean” broody before.. when Nilky was broody I could just simply take her off the nest without much protest... and the same with Sunny my BuffOrp... .... I guess you just never know how each will act... hopefully I don’t get anymore broodies

Yes, I’ve just been kicking Charlie off the nest (obviously not literally) and she’s stays off, until she feels the need to lay again. I thought she had worked through her broodiness last night as there was no egg and she was out with the other two, but she was sitting on an egg this morning so had to boot her off and remove it. On the plus side, she’s letting me give her a good pat once I lift her off!

I wondered that too, whether they initially lay some then stop. Charlie laid some, then didn’t lay for a couple of days, then laid some more. I’ve been taking them away when I find them.
