Oh, and if you’re never going to butcher an animal, why would you be reading a thread about doing it? No judgement on
Anyone here (we’re all friends and “reasonable” people), but there are “those” people... if all your animals are your “babies” why are you in the meat bird forum commenting on “what’s the most humane way” or “how to humanely bitcher” videos? If it’s not something you’re interested in why are you trolling? Little rant... because no one here falls onto that category.

I’ve dated vegetarians, almost became one because the North American meat industry is SCARY and BAD. We eat several vegetarian meals a week. It’s not a problem IMO

Coop Refresh

Since I was home alone this weekend, unplanned, I decided to repaint the coop. We have our big "soup party" in 2 more Saturdays. It is our final outdoor event of the year. We have a selection of soups, large screen TV set up with a football game on, and the firepit with spooky stories playing. It is a big deal and my wife wants the coop, which frankly is pretty visible in our back yard, looking it's best.

Repainting the coop also means recreating the Fluffy Butt silhouettes. That is a lot more work than it seems. Add in painting around the letters on the front of the coop and it took 2 days. I love the final result. I added a special touch to Lilly's new silhouette. See if you can find it!

It looks as good as new Bob. I love the Fluffy Butt silhouettes in the representative colours and shapes!

I was wondering—are social hierarchies in flocks pretty stable, barring a prolonged absence or illness? I figure it must be, if Lily’s crown got to be painted on ( as opposed to a Velcro crown sticker...)

That's funny. A velcro sticker. :gig or sewn on like in those military movies where they rip the rank off of their uniform. RRRIIIIIIIIPPPP!

No, Lilly rules with an iron beak. It will remain so unless something were to happen to cause her to be removed, and even then I would be surprised if she did not go right back to the top anyway.

:hugs :hit Yes, Bob. Wonderful beautiful creatures. And there go the waterworks again... such sweet chickens. And you’re an awesome chicken tender,I envy your dedication and connection to your girls :hugs

Thanks Kris. It's nice to see you catching up again. I'm glad you enjoy the thread.

Thanks for weighing in on the lice treatment as well. That was valuable additional information.

I really need a better way to keep track of everything... lol, just when I catch up on one thread I fall too far behind in another! Lice are nasty little suckers that make my skin crawl! And I have my Precious last can of Carbaryl dusting powder safely tucked away should I ever see the nasty little things again (love the stuff, but you can’t get it here anymore).

New Sleeping Arrangements

It was a cold windy day today with driving rain as a nor'easter came through. This may be responsible for tonight's unusual sleeping arrangements with Aurora snuggled up to Lilly and Hattie. I have not seen this arrangement before.

Has Mal fallen off the perch Bob? Or do you think she might be going broody again like @LozzyR 's Charlie and require the "cage of shame" ?

Sigh - Charlie's gone broody again. And this time she's hard-core broody. I think I'll have to take a leaf out of @BY Bob and @WhoDatChick 's books and put her in the cage of shame over the weekend. :barnie

I'm sorry but the crate does work pretty quickly .

Mal is on the roost extension actually facing camera in that picture. It is an odd place for her to roost. I don't remember anyone ever sleeping there before. Its part of the oddness. Also odd is anyone besides Hattie sleeping by Lilly. Lilly normally does not allow anyone to sleep by her. She is a mean pecker on the roost. I'm guessing Lilly might have been cold last night, molting and all.
