And in Switzerland there are no guard rails on those mountain passes. Maybe they figure it wouldn't stop anything going downhill anyway.When we lived in Iceland, the Liaison explained to us that there were no safeguards built into popular tourist sites. For example, you can walk right out onto the rock shelf of Gulfoss. There is no rope or chain, not even a warning sign. From there you could slip off several hundred feet over the waterfall into the rocky river below. (That didn't stop my husband and many others from walking out there.)The Liaison said, the Icelander's response to people who go where they shouldn't, just because someone hasn't posted a sign or put up a rope is, "stupid tourist". That was a running joke for us while we were there.
