Free Ranging is Over

I noted over on @Ribh thread that it was supposed to snow today. Well, free ranging is now over.

I don't care what people say, I think snow falling like this is pretty and putting up with the inconvenience would be a great opportunity for me to develop patience and calm. I've experienced snow only three times so far, but I loved it every time. When I take my retirement long boat holiday I hope the snow falls for me.

I also like that we can hear the hens in the background :)

Thought I’d share a couple of photos from our garden. The avocado tree is self-seeded and has taken years to fruit. I bought two Frangipani trees from Gumtree, one is going really well, it’s twin not so much. At least it’s alive though, not like the George Brown and Blood Sun I bought from near the QLD border and transported down. $100 for two baby trees and they both carked it last year! :he

Beautiful trees. I've never seen an avocado tree like that before.

Look at those avos!!! Wow, they look amazing. How tall is the tree? Do the fruit hang low enough for easy picking?

One of my frangis is bursting with flowers at present too! So fragrant. It's a species frangi, nothing special. I have a pink one thriving too, but no flowers yet.

Here’s a photo of the tree from further back, it’s the one on the left. The one on the right isn’t fruiting.

Here’s our original one that self-seeded about eight or nine years ago. It’s never fruited.

And because this is a chicken forum, here is a video of a grooming session. :p

About five metres by the looks of it. I’ll probably have to get a ladder for the ones higher up (probably should do that for the lemon tree too).

Our soil is pretty sandy, but daisies have exploded around the trees. I wondered if they sucked every last nutrient out of the ground? The frangis went soft and squishy in the middle and when I tried cutting the first one under the squishy bit, it was all brown and wet inside. The really annoying thing is; I cut two branches off a common yellow and white one and put them on the laundry window sill. They started growing on the sill, out of the ground!
